Spring 2009 Trend: Nude

Trends seem to come in pairs of opposites lately. While brights are in for spring 2009, on the other end of the color spectrum, toned-down nude shades are a big trend as well.

Almost every designer who showed for Spring 2009 incorporated nudes into his or her color palate. Everyone from Gucci to Stella McCartney seemed to be obsessed with subtle shades of beige and tan, so it’s safe to say that this is a huge fashion trend for spring.

My thoughts? I’m personally a big fan of nude shades paired with white, other nudes, or even black. It’s a look that’s very natural, sexy, and easy to pull off. I’ll definitely be wearing this look come spring.

Ways To Wear It

There are so many ways to incorporate some nude into your wardrobe, and none of them involve getting naked! From jackets to shoes, nude shades work well almost anywhere in your outfit. Here are some tips to wearing nudes this season:

* Try nude pumps.

Nude Pumps

Clockwise from top: rsvp Cassidy ($72), Jessica Simpson Teluride ($80.06), MICHAEL Michael Kors Nash Pump ($143), Jessica Simpson Lizza ($88.95), BCBGirls Eslin Hiheel ($98.96)

Nude pumps are one of the easiest way to try this trend out without a big investment. Even better, nude pumps are truly a wardrobe essential, so they won’t go out of style anytime soon. One of my favorite things about nude pumps is that they make your legs look a mile long – a flattering look on any body type!

Nude pumps are a true “neutral” in any outfit, which means you can wear them with anything! Sport them with a little black dress or a pencil skirt and bright top. The combinations are endless!

* Pair nude with black or white.

The hottest way to wear nude this season is paired with a neutral like black or white. It keeps the look chic and modern, and lets the nude hue really stand out. Try black skinny jeans, a nude tank, and a black or white blazer for a look that’s straight off the runways. Or find a dress that incorporates both, like the Forever 21 number in the picture above.

* Try nude accessories.

If you aren’t feeling nude-colored clothing or shoes, consider incorporating a tiny bit of the trend into your look with accessories. Givenchy did a cute nude headband with an adorably simple bow in the photo above. It’s become a super-hot item lately, and would be simple to DIY with a simple headband and some matching ribbon. This Forever 21 headband in cream is very similar too.

What do you think?

You’ve heard my thoughts on the nude trend, but now I want to know yours. Will you be wearing this trend for spring, or are you gonna skip it? How would you wear nude shades? Leave a comment!

    I find it so odd that nudes are in just after I started getting into them.

    It reminds me of that scene in The Devil Wears Prada, when the boss says “You think you chose to wear that sweater in that color?” (close enough)

    Either way, this has to be one of my favorite trends for spring/summer!

    Oooh, liquid leggings! Hot hot hot :)
    People don’t seem to like them, but I’m obsessed!
    I love this post :) I should look into the nude trend.

    And thanks for updating so often lately!
    Reading CF is one addiction I’m not kicking anytime soon ^^

    No way! It reminds me of the colors my grandmother and her friends wear. I love bright colors and being fair skinned and blond I would probably look like I was naked or something in nudes…. but like they say different strokes for different folks!

    I’ll be skipping this trend. I’m a fair-skinned girl who loves bright colors, and anything remotely close to nude is super unflattering on me. Not for me!

    I don’t own a lot of nude clothes, but I do think it looks good. I have a nude top from H&M and it looks great when paired with black.

    i’m going to be skipping this trend, i don’t think that the nude colors are flattering on anyone, might as well go naked if you’re going nude!

    I think some of us have a different idea of what constitutes as “nude”. Personally, I’m including all beige, grey-ge, creams, light browns, and light grays.

    Yay for liquid leggings! I think its funny, I’ve never seen anyone else around wear them, and I sometimes get quite a few looks from them. However, advocating any type of leggings as pants? Huge No-No.

    I’m quite pale, and will probably be skipping this as well. Besides, 80% of my wardrobe is black. (But definitely not in a Hot-Topic type way)

    It looks alright paired with black, but I don’t think I’m a huge fan otherwise. Especially not for those shoes. I do like that bandage-y Zac Posen dress though.

    NUDE is smokin’ hot right now. lovin it.
    i think the best way to wear this trend is to pair nude shoes with neutral (black, white) OR with bright colours.

    For those thinking nude is boring,…that’s why you pair it with something that stands out…think of the nude tone as the foundation of your outfit..and then work some creativity around that. *you gotta think outta the box* people! :)
