Winter fashion is all about comfy layering and cozy knits, which is exactly why we loved designer Rebecca Taylor‘s Fall 2012 show. By sticking with a predominantly neutral color palette, Taylor was able to play with multiple patterns, textures, and materials to create visual interest. The resulting looks are laid-back, effortless, and super-trendy — perfect for college-aged women!

Want to create a runway-worthy look for less? Read on to check out three budget-friendly outfits inspired by Rebecca Taylor Fall 2012:

1. Low-Key Luxe

This outfit takes classic wardrobe staples — like a scarf, cardigan, and jeans — to a whole new level, by using unique textures. The coated jeans give this denim an almost leathery quality, while the fur stole is definitely a statement piece.

Try this look out for yourself by pairing a taupe, sequin-adorned blouse with some coated dark-wash skinny jeans. A slouchy knit cardigan is a comfy and stylish choice, while teal smoking slippers add a pop of color. For the finishing touch, accessorize with a cable knit scarf that has a fashion-forward faux fur trim.

2. Feeling Blue

Pairing a printed skirt with a solid-colored top is a super-simple, yet stylish look you can rock year-round. Just add tights, boots, and your fave jacket to make it work for cold weather.

Get a runway-ready look by pairing a cobalt-colored knit sweater with a black-and-white patterned skirt. These navy blue metallic blend tights add a hint of shimmer, while flat boots lend a casual touch. Finally, layer on a cropped black jacket with a faux fur-lined lapel that’s nearly identical to the one from Rebecca Taylor.

3. My Fair Lady

Pairing a traditional Fair Isle print sweater with fashion-forward leather shorts creates the perfect balance between classic and trendy. We also love the hint of green from the knit gloves!
