What to wear in the sweltering summer heat -- pineapples on the beach in metallic colors

Summer has so much to offer: travel, long days, BBQ parties, no homework (if you’re taking the summer off!), bonfires on the beach, and sundresses, to name a few.

Unfortunately, the sweltering heat is something you must sartorially combat. On those 90+ degree days, dressing properly can be difficult.

From color choices to materials, several things must be taken into consideration when dressing for summer weather. In case you are in need of some inspiration, we have compiled three cute outfits that are ideal for the hot, hot heat.

To keep things on the frugal side for us college gals, each outfit rings in under $100.

Outdoor Concert – $98.69

Hot-Weather-Sample-Outfit-1

Products: Romper – Hollister, Sandals – Sole Society, Bag – Old Navy, Necklace – Forever 21, Ring – Topshop

Rompers are the ultimate easy summertime outfit. You don’t have to think about matching or pairing your favorite top with bottoms; it’s already done! We love this little lacy white number for an outdoor concert, and you’ll wear these detailed t-strap sandals all summer long.

Grab this bright crossbody purse, so you can sling it around you. After all, nobody wants their dancing interfered with a satchel they have to tote around on their arm. Dainty gold jewelry finishes off this chic and summery look.

Everyday Errands – $60.24

Hot-Weather-Sample-Outfit-3

Products: Top – Boohoo, Shorts – H&M, Sandals – Forever 21, Bangles – Nasty Gal, Nail Polish – Target

This ensemble proves that the shorts and a tank top combo can look anything but basic. Silky, flowy shorts are not only fashionable-cool, but they’re also temperature-cool – they won’t trap heat because they don’t stick directly to your thighs.

Patterned shorts are especially on-trend for summer, and we really adore this fierce leopard print pair. Keep things chic by slipping on sandals with gold details and thin bangles. If you’re in need of a pop of color, try this bold blue polish for some bright toes and fingernails.

Dinner Date – $89.39

Hot-Weather-Sample-Outfit-2

Products: Dress – Target, Earrings – ASOS, Shoes – Sole Society, Bag – Daily Look

Whether you’re headed out with the girls, your partner, or on a first date, the trickiest summer wardrobe scenario is dressing up. So, how do you look polished and chic when it’s disgustingly humid and hot?

We say throw on a color-blocked tank dress. A shift-style will keep material from clinging to you. Go with strappy wedges, which are more breathable than pumps. Complete the look with a bold clutch and dramatic hoop earrings.

How do you dress for serious summer heat?

Do you find it difficult to find breathable materials? What styles are your favorite? Would you wear the looks above? How do you stay frugal when shopping for summer clothes? Drop a line in our comment section below!

  1. I live in the south, so this post is super helpful. I’ve also found that when the heat is extreme, sticking to basic clothes and wearing statement jewelry makes it easier. After all, you can’t get hot from wearing a necklace.

  2. Please do more posts like this! I never know what to wear when it’s extremely hot out, and that’s how most of our summers seem.

  3. I laughed when I saw this-I own all of these. For a northern girl down south these items are essentials for summer! I love how cheap they are too. I was surprised not to see a maxi dress or crop top w/maxi skirt since they’re breezy and keep heat out (a la Daenerys Targaryen 🙂
