Outfits Under $100: Looking Chic & Classic in Black & White

Some of the best things in life come in black and white – old movies, desaturated photographs, newspapers, pandas, and cookies & cream ice cream immediately come to mind. Likewise, black and white outfits are among our favorite things… especially for fall.

Like most girls, we have a serious love for neutrals. Most of the go-to pieces in our closets are white or black… and we bet yours are, too! So why not wear them together for a classically chic look?

If you’re concerned about looking drab when you go back to basics, never fear. Below, we’ll show you how to look super stylish in black and white, with four achromatic outfits, each one under $100 total.

Animal-Print Weekend Look – $96.59

Black and white outfit under $100 - zebra sweater, skinnies, cross-body bag, hat, booties
Product Information: Sweater – Mango, Leggings – Forever 21, Shoes – Forever 21, Hat – Wet Seal, Bag – Wet Seal

One of the most dramatic ways to pair black and white is, of course, with a bold animal print. A zebra print tunic sweater is a great choice to keep your lazy leggings-and-boots outfit looking fresh. Also, we love beanie hats in these chilly months for bad hair days – we haven’t seen them as much as usual this season, so rock one today and stand out from the crowd.

Trendy for a Night Out – $99.30

Black and neutral outfit under $100 - Black jeans, peplum top, neutral heels, earrings
Product Information: Top – Oasis, Pants – Nordstrom, Shoes – Charlotte Russe, Earrings – Forever 21

The most exciting way to jazz up your black and white look is to go super, super trendy with it. A peplum top, fake leather leggings, and platform shoes (okay, these are more blush-toned than grey.. but how cute are they?) are all popular. If the entire look was in color, it would be difficult to pull off. However, sticking with all black allows you to rock fun trends like peplum and shiny pants without looking over-the-top.

Pile on the Layers for Class – $99.13

Black and white outfit under $100 - Black shorts, tights, stripe top, vest, oxfords
Product Information: Sweater – Target, Shorts – H&M, Vest – Chic Nova, Tights – Forever 21, Shoes – Amazon

Layers are a great way to add dimension to your black-and-white outfit. Wear tights under shorts (since it’s cold anyways – you need them!), and layer a vest on top of your sweater. If it’s really cold out, add a jacket, too!

In this look, we would be remiss not to mention the standout piece – this pair of shorts from H&M. If you didn’t think you could wear shorts in winter, you’re wrong! With tights, leggings, and boots, trendy faux leather shorts can easily work in those cool months before the negative temps hit.

Playing with Textures at Work – $99.86

Black and white outfit under $100 - faux leather skirt, blouse, patterned coat, flats
Product Information: Top – Target, Skirt – H&M, Coat – Forever 21, Shoes – Charlotte Russe

Another way to add excitement to an outfit with no color is to play with texture. Suede flats with a faux-croc skirt and a houndstooth coat? Fine by us! Also, you don’t have to colorblock to wear these shades – a cool shirt, like this blouse from Target, puts bold touches of black on an otherwise normal blouse.. and the effect couldn’t be cooler.

We want to know… how do you wear black & white in the winter?

How do you keep these neutrals looking cool and fresh?  How do you keep your outfits budget-friendly and under $100?  Which of the looks and tips above are your favorites? Leave a comment below and let’s discuss it!

I absolutely love all the outfits! The top on the last one reminds me so much of Taylor Swift! I’m a huge fan! But great outfits!

I really wish you would make outfits more budget friendly! Around $90 isn’t really that much under $100.

Haha I’m rocking this look today! I paired a short-sleeved version of the last blouse with a black skirt, boots, and tights. Then topped it off with a black and silver zebra printed cardigan. So it’s kinda a combination of the first and last outfits. :)

I thought CF’s only rule were “leggins are not pants!”
