It wouldn’t be summer without dresses. Not only are flowing frocks versatile and cute, but they’re also so easy to wear. A great summer dress can be dressed up or dressed down and rocked with everything from flats and boots to heels and wedges.

To help ease your summer dress-shopping woes, we’ve rounded up five casual and trendy dresses, along with stylish ways to wear each one this season. As always, our outfits are under $100, so you can spend your money on summer festivals and pool days instead of your wardrobe.

Dress 1: $95.96

Maybe you’ve been watching too much Nashville, but if you have the urge to add a bit of Southern twang to your outfit, try pairing a dress with cowboy boots. We love the color of this simple shift dress (with a surprise bow on the back!), which makes it a very versatile piece for summer. Add simple jewelry for extra interest.

As a bonus, with the addition of a sweater, moto jacket, scarf, or statement earrings, this dress would be easy to change up for any casual occasion.

Dress 2: $95.73

Some high-low skirts can be a tad bit too short or see-through in the wrong places. If you love the look of the high-low skirt trend but hate feeling self-conscious, try the simple solution of wearing a plain black bandage skirt underneath one. That way, you’ll get coverage and style at once.

Next, it’s time to accessorize! This soft chiffon dress would be darling with chunky black sandals like the ones shown above. Grab a cool studded wristlet and you’ll have a trendy going out look.

Dress 3: $87.79

A very simple, classic striped dress is always among our go-to frocks for summer. Striped dresses can be easily changed up with various accessories, but we love a simple pair of wedges, a crossbody bag, and a neon scarf for a casual look that can take you out on the town.

Dress 4: $96.58

If you haven’t jumped on the maxi dress wagon yet, now is the time. When these dresses first became popular, many girls were unsure about how flattering they were, but we’re here to tell you that anyone can pull them off. Maxi dresses look great on all shapes and sizes, plus, they are so easy to throw on and wear all day. Pair one with a fun vest and headband for a bohemian vibe.

Dress 5: $96.09

A breezy knit dress in a fun print is the perfect look for any summer day. If it’s still chilly at night, pair it with this killer contrast-panel jacket from Forever 21 and short booties.

How do you stay frugal and fabulous with your summer dresses?

I’m disappointed by this article. When I see “five cute dresses for under $100″, I don’t want to click over and then find outfits that are $96. For example, that Forever 21 dress is pretty affordable, but then you raised the cost from $22 to $96 by throwing in accessories! I don’t know about the rest of collegefashion’s readers, but I sure don’t have $100 to drop on one outfit, or even $50 to drop on a modcloth dress. This article would have been more helpful to me if it had priced the DRESSES, and then warned me that the entire suggested outfit would cost much extra.

Hi Amanda! This series is called “Outfits Under $100″ and as such, it includes entire outfits (clothes, shoes, accessories, etc.) that sum up to less than $100 total. I apologize if the title confused you in any way. And remember, you’re not required to purchase an entire look– just pick and choose pieces you like or use the outfit ideas for inspiration!

I am loving the patterns and colors on dress 5. My favorite place to shop for summer dresses is the thrift store because it’s cheaper that way. ;)

The dress choices in this article weren’t so cute after all. Only the last dress was nice. I was expecting to see something better.

I agree with earlier comments about the dress choices. The dress in the first picture is SO cute, and I thought the other ones looked plain in comparison
