3 Tips for Shopping Online at Urban Outfitters
Urban Outfitters has one of the loveliest online stores- it’s cute, has a great sale section and is generally full of good-quality items- just like the actual store! Don’t live close enough to an actual outpost? Here are a few tips for shopping online at urbanoutfitters.com:
1. Read the Reviews
Urban Outfitters is one of the few retailers that actually lets people comment on different clothing items! So anytime you find a top or pair of jeans you love, make sure you read the comments before you make your purchase. These comments can give insight on sizing and, more importantly, how the garment looks in real life. For example, I know not to wear these flats in the winter and to buy a size down when it comes to this pair of jeans. Seriously guys, take advantage of this feature as it’s ridiculously helpful!
2. When in Doubt, Buy and Return!
Usually, I’d advise you to be wary with buying something online that you’re not 100% sure about. However, Urban Outfitters offers free return shipping on items bought online, so you can try things on and return them at will.
If you’re undecided on a particular item, I’d advise purchasing it so you can try it on with pieces in your closet at home. If you like it and it works well with your wardrobe, you have it. If not, then you can easily ship it back- for free!
UO usually also has nice free shipping deals-currently, it comes gratis with any purchase over $150. So, if you have a couple things in your basket that don’t add up to the minimum purchase, then think about ordering a few more items. Best case scenario- you have some cute new additions to your wardrobe. Worst? You make a short trip to the nearest shipping center.
3. Shop the Sale- But Beware!
The sale section at Urban Outfitters is great- many of their full-priced pieces are a bit above my price range and the sale brings them down to something manageable. However, sometimes sale items are only available in a particular color or size- sometimes, that adorable top is only on sale in the questionable mustard yellow or isn’t available in the size you want.
If you want to know when items go on sale, (and score the best selection) definitely get on UO’s e-mail list, so you know when sales start! That way, you’ll have prime access to the items you want, before all the right sizes and colors are gone.

so very helpful! i have no urban store near me so i always hit up their site for my online shopping-i love the reviews feature (&tags as well), it definitely helps when you can’t try the pieces on.

I just made a purchase from Urban! All of your tips are really helpful…especially about the reviews. They definitely can make or break a sale!! Another important thing to be careful of: a lot of goofy toys go on sale in “apartments” for only a few bucks. I always think theyre great gift ideas or just cute and adorable, and the next thing I know I have 56324 $2 toys at my door! My boyfriend and I have a collection of silly books and coin banks now!

UO’s online has very good buys. I would recommend checking whats on sale online and checking the store b/c often the store doesn’t label things for sale-if you tell them they’ll give you the sale price. So you can get the at sale price and safe on shipping!

Urban Outfitters is my favorite stores and I shop online there all the time. I completely agree about reading user reviews. Once I was going to buy a bag and almost all the reviewers said that the zipper broke quickly after purchasing it, I didn’t buy it, but a friend of mine did. And sure enough, within a month of purchasing an $80 dollar leather bag, the zipper completely broke off. And the sale section is amazing! Good tips!

Just something I read recently which mentions Urban Outfitters sourcing sweatshop-produced garments. I can’t really jump on board buying anything from them as a result.

I really like the idea for these posts and all the posts in this category that have come before it, but I don’t know how helpful (or how specific to Urban Outfitters) this post is. Who is the audience for this piece? To me, it seems most helpful for someone who has only shopped online once or twice — definitely someone with very little experience in online shopping. The last pieces really seemed like “insider tips” and contained information I don’t think I would have known myself before buying anything from those sites.
A whole lot of sites offer reviews of items, so I feel a tip like “read the reviews” would belong in a larger post. The same is true for the third tip — this is true of ALL sites. Sale items are often on sale because everyone has already bought the best sizes and colors in the design. Even the second tip about free returns is the same for a few sites, and though it is helpful to know about it up front, I don’t know if it will help me be a better online shopper at Urban Outfitters.

Urban is one of my favorite sites to online shop from; its just so easy! The reviews are so helpful and the free returns are AMAZING. I always buy two of one size and just return the one that doesn’t fit. Anthropologie and Free People are sister-companies to Urban and have amazing websites as well. They’re a bit more expensive but the quality is outstanding.

1. you can return online orders to the store and get your money back.
2. return policy is the same for sale items.
