Looks on Campus - Meghan - Guelph-Humber University

Meghan's Outfit

As I was walking into class, I couldn’t help but notice Megan’s plaid Dr. Marten’s, which made a huge fashion statement. Not only that, but the laces were even different colors! I could tell Megan had a really unique sense of style, so of course I had to stop her and ask her all about it.

Meghan 101

Name: Meghan

School: Guelph-Humber University

Major: Journalism

Hometown: Toronto, Canada

Some more details…

Year in School: First Year

Hobbies/Interests: “Music – writing and playing the guitar”

Describe your style: “If I had to pick a style for myself, it would be bohemian.”

Who/what inspires your style? “Jimi Hendrix inspires me; I really like the colors and scarves that he wore. I also like buttons.”

Where do you shop/find clothes? “I like the go to second hand stores (Salvation Army) and thrift stores. I also like this independent store in Kitchener called ‘Out of the Past.’”

Elements of Meghan’s Outfit

1. Boots

Since it’s winter time (and it’s cold here in Canada), boots are a must! I liked the colors of Meghan’s Doc Martens and how she added a fun twist with different shoe laces that complement the colors of the plaid. Dr. Marten’s boots are hot right now, and Meghan wore them effortlessly in this outfit. I also loved her cute leg warmers which added a little extra protection from the cold air.

2. Scarf

I like how Meghan took this lovely silk scarf and wore it as a nice hair accessory. This scarf incorporates two hot trends: bright colors and bold patterns. The pattern itself is kind of girly and feminine, yet Megan found a way to add a little edge to the scarf by tying it the way she did.

Looks Inspired by Meghan

Outfit 1:

Meghan’s outfit was very eclectic and boho-chic with a foundation of street smart style. Meghan taught me it’s about not being afraid to mix-and-match bold prints and colors together because taking a risk is what fashion is all about! Here’s an outfit that emulates this fashion philosophy…

Love her style! The yellow shirt peeking out under her sweater and how it matches her shoelace, the boldness of both the headscarf and boots (see how these focus pieces are at opposite ends of her ensemble whereas everything in between is basic-ish). Even how her leg warmers visually correspond to her sweater sleeves peeking out from under her jacket! it’s an interesting thrown-together boho look, yet brilliantly executed.

im just glad that there’s a CF writer from canada! YEAHH REPRESSEENNTT! haha.. i just think that, we need fashion advise from someone who knows how it’s like to live in the great white [and frigid] north. =) cuz some of the looks here cannot be worn 7 months straight in canada. =)
    im too excited! LOL.

    AMAZING POST btw!

Hmm. I usually love the the Looks on Campus article, and while I think most of the outfit is fine, I would never wear boots like that in public ever. I go to school in the north as well (upstate New York), so I know the value of function plus fashion, but I think those boots remind me of a clown. The scarf is gorgeous, but I would more likely wear that around my neck than pirate-esque. Maybe it’s just not my style. (:

The suggested outfits (especially the first one) are really cute though!

    My SCHOOL!!!!

And I like this outfit, minus the boots … it works for her though, just definitely not my style!

I’m not loving the outfit so much.
I actually kinda like Doc Martens, however only when they are done well, and this outfit has confirmed to me why I don’t own a pair…..They are incredibly hard to pull off. I just don’t really get this outfit, the bad over sized jumper? Eeek.
I’m sorry for being so negative about it, it’s just not something I’d look at and think ‘that’s stylish’. I’m sorry.

i love this girl’s style!!! i always tend to admire people’s style when it incorporates things that i would probably be to afraid to wear myself so Meghan, keep on doing what you’re doing!
i do agree that those doc martins are crazy but she works them well. if i wore them i would make a fool of myself haha, but she effortlessly wears things that normally other girls wouldn’t. 2 thumbs up! rock on Meghan!!!

Oh wow….not a fan. I would agree that her style is certainly unique, but it is not something I am used to seeing on CF. Those boots are in no way fashionable, stylish, or even cute! They look like Ronald McDonald.

I agree with Amy. I find those boots very unflattering and would never wear them..also, if I was to wear that scar it would definitely be around my neck. Her look is not for me!

I don’t like this look either. Every piece itself is fine, even the boots could be pulled off nicely and the scarf is fabulous, but in general it looks messy to me. Maybe it’s the wrinkled sweater? Or the unflattering jacket? I don’t know.

every look on CF doesn’t have to be cookie cutter, off the runway looks! i am glad to see that CF has showed another way of putting an outfit together. every single college girl on this planet wears scarves around their neck, this girl put it on her head, alluding to her inspiration from Jimi Hendrix. Shouldn’t we embrace some uniqueness on this blog? isn’t that what being fashionable is about? expressing your own personal style?

I don’t think that outfit is attractive nor creative at all. It is unique-uniquely bad. I don’t mean to sound insulting or anything, but collegefashion normally has such great campus looks!

However, I’d like to add that I do love the looks that the writer suggested/showed. :)

    i <3 collegefashion.

I’m not up for her style – it’s definitely not my cup of tea. But I do adore her boldness and uniqueness. ‘Taking risk is what fashion is all about’ – I like that and she proves it true.

However, I do like the outfit inspirations. :)

You’re all very pertinacious and cliche.
Who said scarfs needed to be worn around one’s neck?
This girl is daring, and maybe the boots are not very chic, but I would love to see any of you pull them off like her.

Fashion is not always what’s popular,
    to me it’s what’s unexpected.
    Fashion should be edgy.
    She nailed it.

Surely the point of a fashion blog is to provide us with new ideas and a fresh outlook; to make us look at our own wardrobe, or the vintage racks, or sale racks, or whatever, a little differently. I fail to see, then, why some posters feel the need to inform us that this “isn’t my look”. Why read a fashion site if you want your own look reflected back at you? You may as well look in a mirror. I think this post made many readers question what “good” fashion is. Isn’t that the point of these things?

Cool to see someone from my school, but I think this outfit is ugly.
