Let’s Talk Fashion

Who or what inspires your style? “I’m inspired by classic styles, but I also enjoy taking fashion risks with colors and patterns.”

Where do you like to shop? “When I’m trying to be frugal, Forever 21, H&M, and Target. If I feel like splurging, Ruche, Modcloth, Francesca’s, and Anthropologie.”

Why did you choose this particular outfit? “I chose it because it incorporated a lot of staple elements of my wardrobe: one pieces, high-waisted bottoms, button-down collared tops, vibrant colors, and patterns.”

What fashion advice would you give to other students looking to improve their style? “I would say to not be afraid to take risks and to always try on pieces that you’re drawn to, or maybe even pieces you’re not drawn to. I am not afraid of bright colors, patterns, unusual shapes, etc., and that bravery has unintentionally shaped my style.”

What are your favorite trends right now? “I love the loafers trend and the vintage-inspired, collared shirts that are appearing everywhere.”

Do you have any favorite designers? If so, who? “I love Isabel Marant.”

What do you do for fun- do you have any unique hobbies or interests? “Making and listening to music, dancing, drawing, and watching Office reruns religiously.”

If you could raid anyone’s closet, whose would it be and why? “Zooey Deschanel, hands down. Her style is quirky, colorful, cute, and old fashioned. It’s perfect!”

Elements of Julia’s Outfit

1. Printed Romper

Rompers are showing their staying power this summer. Julia’s romper is both playful and chic, and keeps her cool in the heat. The print keeps her look fresh, and is complemented by her medium wash chambray shirt.

2. Red Oxfords

Red suede oxfords

Julia’s oxfords add a fun pop of color to her outfit, and also speak to the romper’s versatility during the summer-to-fall transition. Julia wears an updated version of the classic oxford in red suede. Although her romper could stand alone, the oxfords are the perfect accessories to complete her look!

Your Thoughts?

this is not really related to the post but I’ll share anyway. It called my attention when she said that when she’s “trying to be frugal” she’ll buy at stores like Forever 21, H&M, and Target. It’s funny because in my country (I’m from south america) those stores are for splurging. When we are trying to be frugal, we buy at the thrift store or smaller, no brand, stores. Guess that’s what I get coming from a third world country? It’s just interesting :) cultural differences and stuff.

I agree about the splurging part. It was only recently that Target stopped only being for splurging- this is the first year for our family to be above the poverty line. Goodwill and thrift stores and walmart for t shirts and tanks were our places to shop if we needed new clothes.

Loving the blue Rompers and Red oxford looks, very Fall Fashion. While i can agree that everyone has a different perception of frugal spending and when to splurge, i really like the fact that there is always different types of clothing for everyone pretty much everywhere. I like to just mix it all up and see where it takes me. Fashion is what you make of it.
