Looks on Campus: Jeffrey – University of Central Florida
Over the past week, the Florida heat has been backing off a bit. With highs in the 80s, many UCF students have been reveling in this unusually cool weather by pulling out their tights and putting on pants – a rare sight in Florida.
Most of our Looks on Campus posts focus on female style, but when I saw Jeffrey in his amazing pink bowtie, I knew he would be perfect for this series. He has mastered his own unique sense of style, and radiates vintage nerdiness. He’s adorable, he’s smart, and – sorry, ladies – he’s unfortunately taken.
Jeffrey 101
Name: Jeffrey

College: University of Central Florida
Year: Junior
Major: English
Let’s Talk Fashion
Who or what inspires your style? ”I’d say Buddy Holly. Such a classic nerd.”
Where do you like to shop? “Thrift stores mostly, anywhere I can find what I like.”
How would you describe your sense of style? ”Nerdy? I’m not sure how else to describe it.”
Why did you choose this particular outfit? “It went with the bow tie! It’s also been getting cooler out, so I figure I’d take advantage of the weather while it lasts.”
What fashion advice would you give to other students looking to improve their style? “Just find your own things, and don’t worry about the trends.”
What do you do for fun – do you have any unique hobbies or interests? ”I read a lot, and I love comic books.”
If you could raid anyone?s closet, who would it be and why? “Dr. Who, either David Tennant or the Matt Smith version.”
Elements of Jeffrey’s Outfit
1. Bow Tie

Jeffrey’s bright pink bow tie is what first made me notice him on campus. It provides his outfit with a wonderful pop of color and is a great throwback to those Buddy Holly years Jeffrey strives to emulate.
2. Pocket Watch

When I was talking to Jeffrey about his outfit, he casually pulled out his pocket watch, a gift from his mother, and a fabulous alternative to wearing bulky watches. A pocket watch is effortlessly cool and a great way to tell someone the time instead of pulling out a cell phone.
(And speaking of this picture, if you’re a Dexter fan like me, you’ll note Jeffrey is reading the series!)
3. Mismatched Socks

To complete his “vintage nerd” ensembles, Jeffrey dons mismatched socks daily. He says you’ll never see him wearing a matching pair, a practice that puts a unique twist on every put-together ensemble.
What do you think?
Do you like Jeffrey’s outfit? How would you emulate his “vintage nerd” style? What are you wearing this fall? Let us know with a comment!

OMG, yes!! This guy is a Doctor Who fan, too! I can totally see him wearing Matt Smith’s costume wardrobe. And the bow tie is amazing.
Carmen
I love the Doctor Who inspired style with the bow tie and pocket watch. And even raiding David Tennant or Matt Smith’s closets. Awesome!
Jo
Oh please it is NEVER abbreviated as Dr, it’s always Doctor Who. Pet peeve.
Shelby
It is so the Doctor!
Katie
I saw the picture and came popping over to say, “He wears a bowtie. Bowties are cool,” and then actually read the rest of the post and realized he’d beaten me to the connection :)
Kailey
I have that same pocket watch! I got it instead of getting a class ring for my high school. I wear it on a long chain as a necklace, though, since I’m a girl and don’t have loose enough pockets for it.
Shannon
@Jo: they did used to credit the actors as “Dr Who” in the classic series until David Tennant asked them to change it.
He wears a bowtie. Bowties are cool. Love this outfit and hurrah for Whovians taking over collegefashion!!!
P.S. Pocket watch? Or is it a chameleon arch and Jeffrey actually a disguised Time Lord?
Allie
based on all the positive comments on Doctor Who, there ought to be a Fashion Inspiration series for Doctor Who which could focus on Amy, the Doctor (David Tennant, Matt Smith and maybe even Chris Eccleston) and other characters we can channel outfits from!
jacqueline
@shannon, i never knew that tidbit about “dr who”… it’s been bothering me but i guess i’ll have to get over it!
where, pray-tell did he get the pocketwatch? i’m assuming it’s a delightfully meta chameleon arch job until proven otherwise.
if i were male (or if i had a more androgynous frame), i would most definitely be swiping looks from tennant and smith. absolutely fabulous.
Stephanie
Oh he’s precious. Love the pink bowtie.
Suzi
The strategically mismatched socks are such a fun touch!
Jessica
I second that motion for a Doctor Who inspired fashion post. I’d like to think that the Eleventh Doctor has helped bring the bow tie back.
Hollie
The Whovian in me was excited to see the bow tie, and reading the comments have made me so happy that I’m not alone.
Jenny in Jacquard
There’s so much to love about Jeffrey’s outfit. My favorites are a toss up between his bowtie and the pocket watch — two totally unexpected classics.
Hannah
I feel what they should do for a Doctor Who Fashion Inspiration is this:
Eccleston- His style and Rose.
Tennant- His style, Martha, and Donna.
Smith- His style, Amy, and River (Rory is optional, but he does have a style such as his vest and general laid-backness).
This way there are three articles right off the bat, and even more if they were inclined to include some of the older doctors. Also I love this guy’s bow tie easily the best part of the outfit!
Hannah
Can I keep him in my pocket?
Aali
DR. WHO! Yes! Score for nerds~ Love his sense of style and I totally wear a pocket watch too!
Katarina
When I was reading the post, I got super excited when he mentioned Dr.Who. I got exponentially more excited when I scrolled down to the comments and saw everyone talking about it. Whovians FTW!
Tricia
I definitely prefer it without the abbreviation..but I’ll get over it!
He loves Buddy Holly AND Doctor Who? Pray tell, WHY is he taken? :(
I second the Doctor Who inspired fashion!
Katherine
Haha, I came to comment that I love Doctor Who, and looks like everybody beat me to it!
Collegefashion, you should do a Doctor Who inspired post! The female companions (And the Doctor himself) always have great style!
Joy
Please do a doctor who fashion inspiration series!!!!!
Rory
@Hannah
Oh my god yes that would be so perfect. A multi-part series! Plus the inspired-by are my favorite posts here, so…there should be more of them :)
tamara
i wear bowties now. bowties are cool.
Lori
I LOVEE the pocket watch!! :)
Carmen
I definitely agree a Doctor Who inspired post should happen. It’ll be a lot of fun and I’m surprised to see so many Whovians.
Hannah
@Rory
The inspired-by are my favorite articles too! I would be pretty excited if they did this :)
Anelis
Attention all college fashion readers! Sorry to hijack the conversation but does anyone know where I can find a peach/apricot blazer in a size small (kind of like the one on the right http://pixielogue.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html) :( Sigh online shopping has failed me for the first time!
Isa
AH FELLOW WHOVIANS LET US ALL REJOICE IN THE NAME OF HIS FABULOUS PINK BOWTIE
yes a Doctor Who series would be much much appreciated
Liz
Highs in the 80′s equals tights and pants. Gotta love Florida.
Rose

lindsay

Cristina
YES! This guy is awesome! And please, please, PLEASE do a Doctor Who inspired post, I think it would make all of us Whovians ecstatic AND introduce other people to some amazing style :D
Chelsea - University of Oklahoma
um, he’s adorable!!
Emma
I agree with ALL of the previous comments… I just wanted to add that I have always wanted to raid the TARDIS wardrobe. It’s only been shown on the show briefly once or twice that I know of, but it’s been mentioned a few times and I got the impression that it basically has clothes from EVERY era of time and space.
Paula*
I love it when other people understand that 80 degree weather is a time to rejoice. That is autumn weather in Florida, folks.
Alex
He likes Doctor Who, you guys!
Blair
Uh, YESS! He is definitely channeling Chuck Bass. More guys should dress this dapper!
Kate
How adorable. He must have a gorgeous girlfriend. The bowie is just fantastic.
Gracella
Oh I remember when Jeff’s girlfriend got him that pocket watch!! Awesome outfit, Jeff! :-)
