Looks on Campus: Danielle- University of Miami

Looks on Campus - Danielle

This week on campus, all eyes are looking towards summer. The Miami heat is finally starting to set in and the summer nights have arrived for students. The bars and parties have been packed and it’s no surprise that I ran into one of my classmates, Danielle, ready to go out with her boyfriend and get away from all the projects we have due next week.

Danielle, our college fashionista from the University of Miami

I like how Danielle incorporated brown into her mainly-monochromatic ensemble. I think the earth tone works well with the floral embroidery of her dress. To take this look beyond basic, she paired her dress with a dainty bracelet, pretty heels, and a great smile.

Hometown: Boston, Mass

Major: Print Journalism and English

Hobbies and Interests: “Serving as an editor for the school newspaper, The Miami Hurricane, spending time with my sorority sisters, reading and going to the gym.”

Describe your style: “I think my style is classic, but I like to have fun with it and try out new things. One minute I can be totally preppy with my pink Sperry’s, and then the next I can rock my leather jacket and boots. I don’t take my style too seriously but always try to look put-together.”

Who or what inspires your style? “I like classic looks and try draw inspiration from Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly. I love the way women in the ‘50s and ‘60s always looked so classy and styled, and I try to incorporate that into my own outfits.”

Where do you like to shop? “I like to shop at all kinds of stores, and to use a mix of high and low pieces when pulling together an outfit. Lord and Taylor is my favorite department store for dresses, J. Crew is the best for cute t-shirts, and I like to check out surf shops for unique tops and beach cover-ups.”

Why did you chose this particular outfit? “I wanted to look a little more casual but still styled for an evening out in South Beach. My black Nine West pumps are my go-to heels; I love them because they go with everything I own and instantly add oomph to an outfit.”

Elements of Danielle’s Outfit

The Brown Clutch and Gold Knot Bracelet

Danielle's brown clutch

I think the toughness of the brown leather clutch complements Danielle’s sweet dress perfectly. The gold hardware also coordinates with the knot bracelet. Plus it’s the perfect size for parties or dinners out; it fits the necessities without being too big. Also, her dainty bracelet makes a bold statement. I like the nautical rope details and the little knots that dot the bracelet.

Embroidered sleeves on the dress

I love the embroidery on this dress. It has a Middle Eastern/Indian vibe that punches up a very simple linen tent dress. The dress is very wearable and the linen is perfect for keeping cool in the Miami heat.

What do you think?

Cute outfit, don’t like the brown clutch though.
I don’t know what exactly is missing, but her outfit doesn’t seem complete to me… maybe some more bracelets or something?

i don’t like this dress with the heels. i feel like sandals would have been a much better choice. also, i agree that this outfit doesn’t really feel complete…

I do like her dress a lot, very cute, otherwise I don’t think it’s incredibly interesting..

It’s totally cute! But like above, she needs some sandals, some bangles, and maybe some oversized sunglasses in order to complete it. It kinda seems like she just ran out the door and threw on a super cute dress.

I know what you guys mean – if it was me getting dressed I’d probably throw on a few more accessories. But glad you like the dress! As always, if you guys see better looks on your campus and want to send them in, we’d love to hear from you and feature your picks here! Just send them to zephyr AT collegefashion DOT net.

I think her outfit looks simple and elegant. Putting on more accessories might be distracting if the focus is on the dress.

I think what makes me uneasy about it is that all of her pieces are dark neutrals which comes across to me as very flat and cold. Perhaps a pop of color in the clutch or shoes, a hair accessory, and a simple charm necklace would make the outfit more complete?

Alexandra, I think you hit the nail on the head, the outfit needs a pop of color. Especially if she is in Miami, color is all over the place and this outfit seems a bit “cold”. I think this is just my preference, but those types of dresses are hard to pull off. I think you either have to be super skinny or wear it with a belt. I just think you lose your shape in them and that makes them unattractive. I am not saying you should wear super form-fitting dress, but something that gives you shape. I also agree that sandals would have worked better with the outfit.

Zephyr, can grad students send in submissions for this section too?

She looks gorgeous and I completely agree with being classy. I’d wear more accessories too, but thats just my style. I think she suits this simple and classy look nicely :)

I just got an identical pair of shoes from Target last night! I really like the teardrop print on the dress, but ‘m not big on the shape. I know I wouldn’t be able to pull it off.

Love her dress. She looks very cute in it. Not sure about the brown purse though. I’d use something brighter, like red, or maybe white.

i would have worn this with gladiators instead of heels, and the brown clutch doesn’t work at all. this outfit is just awkard. sorry!
