Looks on campus Chelsea

Because my school’s spring semester hasn’t quite started yet, I was very lucky to run into Chelsea, who looked so cute just to move back into the dorms! Her tee is what originally caught my eye. It is just so fun and makes her otherwise simple outfit unique!

Chelsea - a college fashionista with fierce personal style

Chelsea 101

Name: Chelsea

Hometown: Kansas City, Missouri

Some More Details…

Year in College: Senior

Major: Fashion Design and Product Development

Hobbies and Interests: “Between my intense major and the swim team, I don’t have a lot of free time, but when I do, I enjoy reading, shopping, and going on random adventures!”

Describe your style: “I like bright colors and fun unique prints. Everything I wear always has a rocker edge.”

Who or what inspires your style? “I’m really into Pink, and my favorite designer is Betsey Johnson. I also get a lot of inspiration from Joan Jett – she is such an original.”

Where do you shop? “Mostly Forever 21. Being a struggling college student, I live on a budget, and they have the best variety. Actually, this entire outfit is from Forever 21! I also spent a lot of time in the fashion district in L.A. while I interned there this summer. It’s the perfect place to find cheap shoes!”

Why did you choose this outfit? “It’s not dressy, but it is still cute. Plus, it’s really comfortable. I’m all about comfort!”

Elements of Chelsea’s Outfit

1. Unique Tee

Chelseas rocker tee shirt

I love this shirt because it immediately catches your eye. The iconic motorcycle photo of Brigitte Bardot perfectly showcases Chelsea’s persona and rocker-chic individual style. A great graphic tee like this is an easy way to make a simple outfit show off your exciting personality.

2. Skinny Jeans and Converse

Chelsea's Converse Shoes

Since Chelsea is always striving for comfortable fashion, her grey Converse sneakers are always her go-to pair of shoes. They are the perfect choice for any college girl because they are classic and come in almost every color under the sun.

Shoes like these can be warn in winter or summer and with jeans or dresses. Chelsea’s have a rocker vibe because she paired them with skinny jeans and a graphic tee, but if that’s not your style, try a pink pair with a simple dress. These shoes can go far in any wardrobe!

Er.. to be honest, her style is hardly unique. Pretty much EVERYONE dresses like this around where I live and it’s so boring to see day after day.

Honestly, I don’t see why this was posted here. Sure it’s a cute tee but it does nothing for her… On the positive side of things, the outfit suggestions were cute.
Please don’t let this happen again.

I’m a fan of funky graphic print tees. :) They’re a great basics piece, though I tend to dress them up using vests, scarves, crazy cardigans, or a nice high-waisted skirt with some fun tights. I’d recommend for those ladies who have broader shoulders and hips to try on mens graphic tees. It’s my little secret! If you find that womens tees fit really strangely on your body in the bust, shoulders, and hip-age area then this tip WILL work for you. Mens tees tend to fit better and the designs are wayyyy nicer (think more edgy and obscure, less unicorns and rainbows). I found that the fabric is also much more durable and the cut leaves just enough to the imagination (they are not skin tight in all the wrong places). One extra bonus that i’ve noticed is the little morale boost of fitting into a small!
Try it ladies, you just might be surprised! :)
I like this outfit a lot Chelsea, cute outfits using this Chelsea as inspiration Kelly!

I have a pair of converse I got in 8th grade…yes, the still fit :) I feel like I see SOOOO many 13-14 year olds wearing them, its hard to get past the mental block. I love the 2 outfits posted! I’d probably wear them with ankle boots though

I like this series :) I’m not one for graphic tees and converse but I do love that Pink Bow tee from Delias, I’ve been looking at it for a while online waiting for a sale. My look is more blair waldorf and j.crew. Ignore those first few comments about this being a bad post etc! Sure the outfit is a bit generic but it’s still great! Good job!

I’m so happy to see another girl from Columbia on CF! Love this outfit.

I’m very unimpressed by this edition in the series. I’ve never been to Missouri, but everyone in New England looks exactly like this. If I wanted to see college students in skinny jeans, tee shirts and converse, I’d look out the window. Please pick a better student next time.

… it is not that unique… just seems like an everyday boring outfit… but it is nice to know that you not needs to be dressed up every day….. and just an extra comment, i can totally relate to the feeling of buying everything from the same store (H&M… have read the CF article), you guys don’t know how lucky you are, clothes are not that expensive in the US (half price for me), and you got a lot of cheap stores… i have never even seen a forever 21, american eagle, or A&F, and have only been once in a GAP store….

Love the casual look. It is nice to know you can dress casual without having to look like you are wearing sloppy sweats. Pretty cute outfit for moving into the dorms

unfortunately, i have to agree that this article fell a little bit below the mark for me. i liked the “inspired” looks, i just didnt think the girls outfit was something that was really unique. it didnt inspire me as much as other posts have, which is what i think is so great about college fashion. i look at the outfits and think, i must buy that! i just didn’t feel that way this time, i think because it is such a common outfit. i hope kelly is not offended, i am just trying to offer some constructive criticism for future posts.

yea i also think her outfit is really normal,
BUT, i do think the second outfit you put together makes up for it :) i’d totally wear it

I’m torn on this. On one hand, I like that she’s wearing a very simple easy-to-wear casual look. Some of these Looks on Campus kind of look ridiculous-like a trendy nightmare. Chelsea’s look is more relatable to the average student. However, the look is pretty normal. I’ve seen this on campus all the time. I’d like to see someone that is a fashion inspiration without looking overly trendy. It’s a really tough middle ground. I like this series and I think this post is moving it in the right direction. Just next time, a little more creativity. Keep trying though, this series will get there eventually.

I will admit that this is a step up from the university uniform of sweatpants and uggs… but that’s about it. I could look out my window right now and see a dozen people on campus this moment with more unique styling than this. :/

i don’t want to offend chelsea, or kelly, but I agree with a lot of the other posts.

I don’t think this outfit is original, or inspiring at all.

hopefully you choose better next time, i usually like these posts

id second with all of the above posts too… all the people at my campus wear that t-shirt and skinny jeans combination. and as with the converse as well…..nothing that inspiring here….

Oof — I was about to comment on this by saying “is this really some kind of fashion inspiration?” and I just realized that everyone else said the same thing! I’m not at all saying she doesn’t look good, I was just thinking that it doesn’t seem to pop (“ooo amazing!”) or click (“I can totally tell her personality from this!”)

Part of that might be the photo, which looks … camera phone quality? But yeah, I think this definitely looks like real-college-student style, but I wouldn’t say real-college-student style you absolutely must emulate. You know?

My style changes from day to day: sometimes I’m all dressy and sometimes it’s very laidback and casual. I own a lot of funky tees (including the pink one from the first outfit) and I own a pair of white converse and a pair of pink converse. I usually just pair them with skinny jeans and a headband for a simple laid back look.

I think this outfit is cute for those days where you are in a hurry but don’t want to wear sweats. I love the first outfit inspired by Chelsea’s look.

I like the outfit, but the outfits inspired from it were amazing, very legit, i foresee more good things coming when school gets back into the swing of things and everyone is moved it

I love love love Outfit #1! I’ve been eyeing that Delia’s bow tunic forever, it looks great with the converse.

And I think everyone’s personal style is unique… I like Chelsea’s look, and I also think readers should keep in mind that just because something isn’t your taste doesn’t mean it’s not stylish. If everyone wore the same thing fashion would be pointless!

    January 25th, 2010 at 12:13 am

Audrey, I think that most people’s point is not that her outfit isn’t their taste–it’s that it IS exactly like what everyone else is wearing.

The outfits you’ve created are totally cute, though!

The outfit underwhelming at best, and sorry to say, not figure flattering. Not every “body” should wear skinny jeans. I’m one of those that can’t!!! I hope the next look is a little more fashion forward and original. Every 13-23 year old in my town wears the exact same outift…

and on top of Morgan’s comment, a t-shirt and skinny jeans look disproportional…..

Jeez, this is like, my ‘I didn’t feel like picking a real outfit’ outfit

I bought that bow shirt from Delia*s months ago and I wore it with a high waisted skirt. They work well if you’re more comfortable with skirts and wanting to be casual at the same time.
