Women in Music features female artists who are either up-and-coming in the music world or are already taking over the industry. Not only is their music hype-worthy, but their personal style is something to admire as well. These successful women are definitely worth watching!
Sky Ferreira is a singer-songwriter from Los Angeles who has been growing in popularity after the release of her debut album Night Time, My Time in 2013. She's also one of the opening acts for Miley Cyrus' Bangerz Tour.
Sky was first discovered by music producers in 2009 after uploading videos on Myspace singing her original songs. Since then, she has released several EPs, her first studio album, and even modeled for big fashion brands like Yves Saint Laurent (She does it all!).
Her musical style blends many elements of synth-pop and indie-rock, and her vocals range from airy and effortless (maybe due to the opera lessons she took when she was younger!) in songs like "Everything Is Embarrassing," to darker and almost haunting on tracks like "Night Time, My Time."Sky takes inspiration from musical influences such as Madonna, Gwen Stefani, Hole, and Britney Spears, who all contribute to her catchy sound that she describes as being comparable to '80s pop.
Want to get into Sky Ferreira's music? A few songs you should check out to get a feel for her sound are "I Blame Myself,""You're Not the One," and "Sad Dream," as well as the two songs mentioned above.
And of course, just like her unique musical style, Sky has an ultra-cool fashion sense to match. Below are two outfits inspired by Sky's grungy yet girly personal style:
Love in Stereo
Sky's style is often very grungy and laid-back but also has a distinctly feminine vibe. She takes a girly piece, like this floral smock dress, and edges it up with heavy combat boots. This effortlessly cool outfit can be accessorized with knee-high socks or even sheer black tights, as well as a dainty layered necklace. Apply smudgy black eyeliner and rock some messy hair to complete the look.
Heavy Metal Heart
No rock-star getup is complete without a leather jacket (or a nice denim one) and some cool shades, which are both pieces that Sky rocks frequently. She also loves wearing platform heels and adding a '70s glam rock' vibe to many of her outfits, which is a look you can achieve with these platform, clog-like heels. To add another grungy style detail without having to wear an oversized flannel shirt, opt for a plaid skirt in muted or earthy tones, paired with a simple strappy white tank to balance out the ensemble.
What Do You Think?
