One of the biggest trends for fall is ’90s/grunge-inspired fashion, and no design house showcased that look better than Saint Laurent. These fashion-forward ensembles incorporated grungy staples like flannel, oversize knits, and thick-soled boots with a distinct designer flair.

Want to get a designer look on a college budget? Below, we’ve created lower-priced versions of three looks from Saint Laurent Fall 2013 – just scroll down to check them out:

1. Remixed Party Dress

Who says you can only wear a nice dress on a night out? By pairing it with an oversize plaid top, sheer tights, and moto boots, this fancy frock is transformed into a daytime-appropriate ensemble.

This taupe-colored dress from F21 looks just as good during the day as it does at night. To dress it down for class, layer on a cozy flannel button-down and add a pair of buckled ankle booties. Sheer tights help to streamline the look, while a spiked ring gives the outfit some extra edge.

2. Grunged Up Basics

Denim mini skirts aren’t typically associated with grunge, but Saint Laurent used one to capture the grunge vibe perfectly. A fuzzy knit cardigan, fishnets, and chunky boots added a fresh new twist to the otherwise polished and preppy denim skirt.

For a similar outfit, look for a distressed denim skirt – this Mango one even has similar embellishments to the runway version. Pair it with a black-and-white collared blouse, as well as a shiny patent belt. A cool shag cardigan adds some flair, while lace-up boots keep things casual. To maintain the grungy vibe, don’t forget a pair of fishnets!

3. Pattern Overload

Rocking mixed prints is such a fashion-forward look, and this Saint Laurent ensemble goes all out by pairing leopard with floral. This look works because both prints are small in scale, plus the entire outfit is fairly neutral. The combination of these two patterns is bold, but not overwhelming.

Recreate this getup by pairing a dark floral print dress with a faux fur leopard coat. For an additional dose of pattern, go with some dotted tights like the ones worn by the model on the runway. If that’s a little too much print for your taste, solid black tights work just as well. Grab a pair of chic biker boots, then accessorize with some fun diamond-shaped earrings to complete the look.

I loved that collection! You can get a dress really similar to the plaid one in the third picture in Penneys/Primark, I have it in green and navy plaid, it’s soooo cute. You could even add the safety pins if you wanted to make it look even more like the real thing!

I was pretty shocked by this collection since it doesn’t look like Yves Saint Laurent at all! It could have been a Zara collection, seriously. What is Slimane doing?

    Good article though.

I was happy to see grunge look so chic and sexy. It’s great inspiration to put more girl in my punk look
