After I spent my 4th of July weekend singing all the songs from last year’s Pitch Perfect with my 11-year-old cousin, I re-watched the movie and realized that the film features some pretty great fashion in addition to the awesome music.
If you haven’t seen it, Pitch Perfect, which stars Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow, Anna Camp, Rebel Wilson, Skylar Astin, and Elizabeth Banks, is about the highly competitive world of college a cappella. It’s also absolutely hilarious, and a must-see for any fan of musical movies or a cappella.
Outfits Inspired by Pitch Perfect
Wanna look like you, too, make music with your mouth? Read on for four outfits inspired by Pitch Perfect!
I Saw The Sign
The Barden Bellas are a highly disciplined group of singers who take tradition very seriously. They only sing songs made famous by women; while it’s a great sentiment, this tends to limit their repertoire.
Like the singers themselves, the skirt suits they wear are perfectly polished. Between the sleek bouffants and neck scarves, though, their look is a little too “flight attendant” for everyday wear. Put a fun spin on the Bella uniform with a bold lemon-colored blazer and a polka dotted pencil skirt. A tie-neck blouse and a pair of patent Mary Jane heels add to the prim-and-pretty vibe. Finally, try a sock bun for a more modern take on the Bellas’ ’60s-inspired hairstyles. ”Aaaaahhh” on 3!
You’re Gonna Miss Me
Beca, played by Anna Kendrick, is the lovable, yet prickly heroine who dreams of ditching college for LA to pursue a music career. Despite her initial reluctance to join the Bellas, she eventually discovers that the best friendships can be found in the most unlikely of places.
Get that “indie alt girl” look with a plaid chiffon blouse and a pair of oh-so-artfully ripped skinnies. A lace bandeau provides some coverage under a sheer top, while a draped black vest is reminiscent of the ones Beca wears throughout the movie. Sturdy motorcycle boots finish off the look. On the technology front, don’t forget your headphones — these are the ones used onscreen — and a fun vinyl record-emblazoned phone case.
I Got The Magic
The Bellas face stiff competition from the Barden University Treblemakers (gotta wonder if they’re supposed to be inspired by the BU Treblemakers from my alma mater!). This band of acafellas sure knows how to make the crowd go wild with their high-energy mash-ups and cool dance moves.
Get the group’s All-American, clean-cut look by pairing your favorite boyfriend jeans with a roomy cardigan that recalls the Treblemakers’ dress shirts. A sleeveless chiffon blouse adds a touch of femininity, while a pair of treble clef earrings reference the group’s name. Bright blue sneakers add an unexpected pop of color. 1, 2, 3, swag!
Don’t You Forget About Me
When the Barden Bellas take to the Lincoln Center Stage in the finals, they’ve totally revamped not only their vocal style, but also their wardrobes! Gone are the matchy skirt suits: instead, each girl shows their own personality while sticking to the Bella colors of navy, black, white, and yellow.
Do the Bellas proud with a look that would fit right in with theirs! Pair a sweet tie-front blouse and scalloped sailor shorts with an edgier motorcycle jacket for a flirty rocker vibe. Add a navy wrap bracelet and yellow studded loafers to incorporate all the Bella colors. Finally, don a pair of dollar sign earrings as a reference to “Price Tag”, one of the songs the Bellas use in their final mash-up performance. Aca-awesome!
