Our next Fresh Fashion Icon is a girl with an awesome sense of style and a killer set of pipes: Marina Diamandis.

Marina – better known by her stage name Marina and the Diamonds - is a British-born singer-songwriter who creates catchy tunes with witty, soul-searching lyrics. Her first full-length album, “The Family Jewels,” was released in 2010 to much critical acclaim.

We’ve mentioned Marina before on CF (check out this post on outfits inspired by Marina and the Diamonds songs), but we haven’t covered her quirky, one-of-a-kind offstage look. Marina is a fan of bright colors, eclectic pieces and bold makeup. Interested in learning more about her style? Read on to learn the three elements of her personal style and ideas on how to create a look inspired by Marina:

Embellished & Exaggerated Shoulders

One of the first things I noticed about Marina’s style was her love for pieces with bold shoulders. Whether they’re embellished or oversized, these interesting pieces add structure and even a hint of whimsy to her look.

Clutch, Dress, Bracelet, Ring, Booties

The next time you have a fun night out planned, channel Marina and wear a pretty dress with unique detailing on the shoulders. For a fashion-forward look, add a metallic clutch and some ankle booties. Finally, accessorize with some bold jewelry, like this ring and bracelet.

Fun Graphic Prints

Marina’s not afraid to wear fun, attention-grabbing graphic prints, like the ones above. She then pairs them with unexpected pieces for a stylishly unique look. I mean, who else could rock this tee like Marina does?

Marina Inspired Outfit 2
Tee, Skirt, Earrings, Bag, Sandals

For a fun and wearable everyday outfit inspired by Marina, pair an adorable graphic tee with a structured mint green skirt. Add some matching sandals and some delicate teardrop earrings. For a finishing touch, add a springtime-appropriate straw tote.

Bold & Unique Lip Colors

When it comes to makeup, Marina’s always up for trying out a bold lipstick to add some extra oomph to any outfit. From bright corals to vibrant pinks and even a daring black, Marina wears her unique lip colors with confidence.

Model’s Own Coral, NYX’s Femme, Revlon’s Pink Pout, Urban Decay’s Eric, MAC’s Hang-Up

While black lipstick may not be a good choice for everyday, try out a bold lip color in an offbeat pink, orange or red shade. For a really dynamic Marina-inspired look, wear lipstick in a deep plum shade. However, if you’re not feeling so brave, try a more subtle approach by wearing a pigmented gloss.

What do you think?

Do you like Marina’s style? What do you think of her fashion sense? Would you ever rock a bold lip color like she does? Be sure to leave a comment and let me know your thoughts!

Adore her! She pulls off everything. And that effortlessly. Wouldn’t wear such lipstick shades tho… but she owns it!

i love her style! it’s sort of Lady Gaga-esque but prettier and not as crazy. I love her outside the box creativity and bold make-up.

I really like some of her style, like the bold prints and colors, but the bikini T-shirt and that hippo dress are just nasty.

I think it’s awesome that she’s not afraid to wear strange things like the bikini top and the hippo dress even though I’m sure there are quite a few people who find them “nasty.” I think it’s a nice break from how boring a lot of fashion usually is.

Pink and orange lipstick on her is to die for! She is gorgeous. I think her style is the less theatrical Lady Gaga. I think her style is more comical than fashion-forward. I love British style.

Oh wow, Marina’s style is definitely quirky. I love how to you translate her bold choices (uhhh strawberry covered shoulders?) into practical looks. I actually have the mint Adam skirt from The Outnet and I absolutely LOVE it! Great post!
