Fashion Inspiration: Hart of Dixie’s Zoe Hart

Fashion darling Rachel Bilson stars as Zoe Hart, the title character of the new hit TV show Hart of Dixie. She plays a very fashionable doctor who recently moved from New York City to the small town of Bluebell, Alabama. The true southern belle, Lemon Breeland, criticizes Zoe’s modern style choices which include short shorts, high waisted skirts, and clingy dresses.

Two weeks ago, I wrote about Lemon Breeland’s style from Hart of Dixie, and I received a ton of comments wanting a post on style inspiration from Zoe Hart. Without further ado, here’s a breakdown of Zoe’s style and three outfits inspired by her look.

Zoe’s Style 101

Zoe Hart is known for her impeccable style sense, and you can easily achieve her look by adding a few key pieces to your closet:

  • Chunky, high heeled boots or Oxford heels (See outfit #1 & #2 for ideas)
  • High-waisted shorts
  • Leather bomber jacket
  • Button-up blouse in white or black (See outfit #1)
  • Body-con/fitted skirt
  • Structured dress that could be worn to work or on a date
  • Simple jewelry

Although Zoe’s outfits on the show are really expensive because they all include spendy designer pieces, you can still get the same style while picking pieces at more affordable prices. The key to Zoe’s look is to be chic and trendsetting and that, my friend, can be found at ANY store.

Here are a few different outfits you can try out to achieve the Zoe Hart look…

Outfit #1:

{Top} {Shorts} {Shoes} {Rings} {Necklace}

This first look is a flirty ensemble that would be great for going to the mall with your friends or even for a coffee date. Zoe Hart loves her high-waisted shorts and chunky heels – these chunky oxfords are perfect for her look. Add a flowy blouse with button details for a romantic flare. When it comes to accessories, Zoe is very simple – she usually only wears a few simple pieces – so finish the look with a simple necklace and rings.

Outfit #2:

{Top} {Jacket} {Skirt} {Shoes} {Tights} {Rings} {Necklace}

This next outfit is a trendy classic. Zoe LOVES to wear black and white, and she also loves stripes, so I combined them for a look that’s quintessentially her. To achieve this look, pair a striped shirt with a heavier leather jacket, and add some boot-like heels. The skirt is a simple body-con black one, and can be worn with lace tights. Again, the jewelry is simple – just a single necklace and some rings are perfect in order to add some texture to the outfit.

Outfit #3:

{Sweater} {Pants} {Shoes} {Bracelet} {Necklace} {Purse} {Earrings}

This outfit is more of a laid-back look that Zoe would wear around the house or while running errands. The chunky sweater, paired with black skinnies, creates the perfect combination for a chic, yet relaxed look. The teal flats add some color to the outfit, while the accessories are a little bit bolder .

    Love the outfits you put together! I haven’t watched the show but I love Zoe’s style! It reminds me a lot of Rachel Bilson’s real life fashion sense. Not a huge fan of her as an actress but that girl sure knows how to dress!
    It does strike me as silly/impractical for a doctor to wear such high heels and short hemlines, but hey, it’s television. (And I’m just jealous because I know that should I get into and through med school, I won’t look anywhere near as fabulous, haha)

    Also, creeper alert, I just read your profile…DISNEYLAND CHURROS ARE THE MOST MAGICAL FOOD IN THE UNIVERSE. Seriously, I swear they put pixie dust in them or something. I’ve tried “real” churros in Mexico and Spain and they’re nowhere near as delicious as the Disneyland ones. (Blessed by Mickey Mouse, perhaps?)

    These posts are amazing! I’ve never heard of this show, but the style is phenomenal. Another show with impeccable style/fashion/costumes is abc’s Once Upon a Time, any chance of seeing some posts on that? :)

    Hart of Dixie is one of my guilty pleasures (not the greatest acting, but still strangely addicting). I love her style on and off the show, which combines both femininity and edge.

    Cute outfits but you can’t actually wear sweaters in the Deep South right now. Is it actually sweater weather this time of year? LOL It’s 70-something outside! If this is actually what they’re wearing on the show, they must be in Cali or something, where you have to wear cardis even in the summer at night.

    There’ll probably be another cold snap when the “monsoon” season starts up. You’re better off wearing a cute jacket or trench that sheds water that you can take off in class rather than a sweater that soaks up water. You’ll smell like a wet puppy or worse, when it’s been in your room for a few hours and has a chance to mildew after getting soaked in rain and sweat. Take it from someone who knows. Think heat plus humid!

    @katlin – Can I come live where you live?! it was 34 degrees here today! Forget the sweater when it’s 70 degrees and humid, but for colder weathered climates it’s a must! :)

    Cute outfits, but I’ll admit I don’t care for Hart of Dixie. I don’t suppose you’ll do a post on the fashions of Downton Abbey? Sybil especially deserves an inspired outfit!

    I agree with Shelby- I’d love a post about Downton Abbey, especially Mary and Sybil!

    I like the outfits made here, although I do have to agree with Steph that you do need to be aware of your climate before just jumping on these exact pieces. Like the teal flats are adorable, but if you lived in a wetter climate you could never wear them because they are suede. Thanks for posting all the sites where the pieces came from though; it gives me a good starting point for searching for other cute finds.
