There’s nothing I love more than model-off-duty style. Since models get a front-row seat to fashion and trends as they are happening live, their outfits are often amazing indicators of what’s hot to wear!
But supermodels take it to the next level – women like Elle MacPherson, Kate Moss, and Gisele Bundchen have achieved celebrity status, and their outfits are often even more incredible than your average modelo-off-duty, due to their amazing designer connections (and bank accounts)! If you want to get supermodel-off-duty style for yourself, read on for tips and example outfits.
Look 1: Elle MacPherson’s Army-Inspired, Edgy Style
I adore Elle MacPherson. She is the epitome of beachy, carefree beauty, and is always rocking the coolest outfits. She was recently photographed at Heathrow Airport in some leather skinny pants, a green army jacket, leopard-print flats, a light scarf, and some mirrored aviator sunglasses.
Two things about this look inspired me: first, I loved how Elle mixed military-inspired jacket (which is a huge trend for fall) with leather, and second, how she made the leather pants daytime-appropriate by dressing them down. Most of us have tried the leather leggings trend– I have a few in my closet, and I have been looking for a way to wear them this fall — if that’s you, and you have a pair sitting in the back of your closet, why not rock them for day like Elle does above? As she shows us, it’s totally possible to dress them down.

These leather leggings are great because they are an updated version of last season’s plain pairs — these have matte black side paneling, mimicking the look of riding pants. While Elle is wearing leather pants, not leggings, above, I chose leggings because these looks are created for the average college girl, so I used pieces that would be accessible and easy to find – and I don’t think I have ever found leather pants at the mall! Of course, if you own leather or faux-leather pants, those would be preferable.
To dress the leggings down for day, pair them with a tunic-length gray V-neck T-shirt, and a long military-style jacket– this one is long enough to cover your backside, which is essential if you’re wearing leggings. Leopard-print flats provide the perfect contrast to the rest of the look, as they are ideal for walking around during the day, and are super hot for fall! Finally, add a light scarf like this one which features cute black tassels, and finish with these mirrored aviators which look way more expensive than they really are.
Look 2: Kate Moss’ Updated Basics
Kate needs little introduction, as out of all models, she is perhaps the most widely recognized and revered for her personal style. She stunned as usual when photographed out in the city wearing a plain black t-shirt, black blazer, gray skinny jeans, black lace-up booties, and her signature Ray-Ban Wayfarers.
Leave it to Kate to take the most simple items and make them look fashion-forward and totally inspiring!

Leave it to Topshop to make the ultimate utilitarian skinny jeans- they’re tough, but at the same time, super sexy! Simply add a black scoop-neck T-shirt, a black blazer (with rolled-up cuffs, of course!), some classic black Wayfarer sunglasses, black lace-up booties, and a gold pendant necklace for some flair. And don’t forget the structured black belt to finish the look off!
Look 3: Gisele Bundchen’s Casual Combo
While rehearsing for Fashion’s Night Out, Gisele kept it cool and casual in some jeans with an interesting wash, a gray tank top, a black vest, some strappy flat sandals, and black Wayfarers– I think it’s clear that models love the classic Wayfarer sunglasses!
I love this outfit because it is so perfectly simple– I know sometimes I get too caught up in wanting to look trendy, which makes me forget the value of an outfit made purely of basics. Gisele’s model-off-duty ensemble serves as a great reminder of how you can look perfectly chic without going overboard.

Let me start off with the jeans: They are so cool! They’re called “skinny boy jeans” – while the shape is slim like a skinny jean, they have the slight baggy-ness of a boyfriend jean. Genius! And so comfortable. The rest of the look is straightforward: a plain gray tank with a pocket, a black vest, strappy flat black sandals, and the ever-popular Ray-Ban Wayfarers combine for an ensemble that’s basic but fashionable. To finish it off, bring along this cute camera bag. After all, now that you’re model-ready– who’s ready for their close-up?
