Celebrity Street Style of the Week: Coachella 2014

Julianne Hough, Hilary Duff, and Sarah Hyland at Coachella 2014

It’s that time again… the Coachella celeb fashion wrap-up! This is perhaps my favorite Celebrity Street Style post of the year, as I am always inspired by the festival fashion.

Practically all of Hollywood flocked to Indio, California for the Coachella music festival, including Julianne Hough, Hilary Duff, and Sarah Hyland, who rocked some of my favorite looks of the week. Read on to see how you can get their looks for yourself.

Look 1: Julianne Hough is a Boho Babe

Actress Julianne Hough looked like a total boho babe in a black crochet bralette, flowy wide-leg printed pants, and sandals. She accessorized with a woven bag, round sunglasses, and a beaded tassel necklace, then tied a scarf in her hair.

Retro, bohemian-inspired looks are very in this summer, and Julianne’s look provides outfit inspiration for more than music festivals; this outfit would also be perfect for the beach or a pool party.

Julianne’s outfit is a trendy and modern take on vintage bohemian style. Crochet is making a major comeback, and this black crochet bralette is a great way to try out the trend. Rock it at an outdoor concert, the beach, or by the pool.

To balance this cute crop top, pair it with bold wide-leg pants. These chiffon pants feature a paisley print, which gives this outfit that vintage vibe. Pair them with flat sandals and retro-inspired accessories, like a woven hobo bag, round sunglasses, and a beaded tassel necklace.

Look 2: Hilary Duff’s Casual & Cute ‘Chella Style

Hilary Duff’s festival fashion was toned-down in comparison to many of the super-bold looks at Coachella, but that’s what makes her ensemble a bit more functional and wearable for your daily life!

Hilary wore black-and-white printed shorts with a white tank top, a denim shirt tied around her waist, taupe-colored ankle booties, a brown wide-brim fedora hat, oversized tortoise sunglasses, and a Chanel bag. The overall look is cute, casual, and perfect for spring and summer.

Hilary’s outfit works for a music festival, but it would also look fab for a casual lunch with your friends on a nice day. Swap out your average denim shorts for a printed pair, and wear them with ankle booties for fashion-forward vibe. I love a good shorts and booties combo, and these booties happen to have a little skull head on the side zippers, which adds a little edge.

Play up the shorts with a sleeveless crochet stitch top – crochet is the fabric to embrace this season! Hilary completed her look with chic accessories, like a brown wide-brim fedora hat, oversized tortoise sunglasses, and a Chanel bag. However, since we can’t all afford a Chanel, go for a classic cross-body bag with a chain strap.

Look 3: Sarah Hyland’s Festival Florals & Fringe

Sarah Hyland took her festival fashion seriously by donning bold, eye-catching pieces that had a quirky boho vibe. Sarah wore a long floral kimono with a white crochet-trimmed tank top, lace-trimmed jean shorts, and neutral colored ankle booties.

She accessorized her getup with a long fringe necklace, a beaded headband, and some face paint. The feminine hippie aesthetic of Sarah’s look is trending for summer, but this outfit can be toned down for the average college student by removing some of the accessories.

Sarah’s outfit plays on three big summer trends: florals, kimonos, and crochet. A floral kimono is the perfect lightweight summer jacket to pair over high-waisted denim shorts, like this sweet crochet-adorned pair. With its scalloped crochet hem and open sides, this tank top mimics Sarah’s perfectly.

Don’t forget a pair of neutral ankle boots – the cutouts on these Charlotte Russe booties keep them on-trend for springtime. If you want to take the outfit to the next level, add accessories like a beaded headband and a long layered necklace.

The only one I’d wear is Hilary’s. The others a bit too trendy for me – and while I love the boho look on others, it really isn’t for me!

You should do a fashionably informed piece on cultural appropriation. It’s rampant at music festivals (especially coachella), with girls wearing bindis & Native American headdresses
