Celebrity Street Style of the Week: 3 Summer-to-Fall Transition Looks

Reese Witherspoon, Heidi Klum and Leighton Meester street style

This week, it seemed like most of the celebs were starting to lean towards fall fashion by going for pants and jeans, as opposed to last week’s featured celebs, who were rocking shorts and rompers!

Reese Witherspoon, Heidi Klum, and Leighton Meester all looked super cute this past week while toeing the line between the seasons, and below, I will help you emulate their looks!

Look 1: Reese’s Casual Military Jacket and Lace Top

I’ve been dying to get my hands on a cool military jacket for the fall, and I am loving Reese’s army green choice! It’s not too fitted or too big, and is light enough to wear in both summer and fall.

Reese paired her amazing military jacket with a cream-colored lacy shirt, adding a feminine touch to the ensemble. She also rocked simple, straight-legged jeans, gray sunglasses with a shape similar to the Ray-Ban Wayfarer style, and some flat sandals with fun embellishments. Overall, her look perfectly toes the lines between trendy and classic, and functional and fun.

The pieces you need to recreate Reese’s look are fairly simple, but they all have some sort of unique twist. First, this military jacket from Urban Outfitters is strikingly similar to Reese’s, and will carry you through the fall– I envision it over dresses and skirts, in addition to jeans, of course. The lace top can be worn with a camisole underneath to give you more coverage, as Reese demonstrated in her look above. Finally, these Levi’s skinny jeans are so classic, they’ll literally go with anything in your closet.

As for the accessories, I think these Forever 21 sunglasses work well with the outfit because their funky shape (reminiscent of the classic Wayfarer) and unique teal color create a whimsical vibe, which is a nice contrast against the olive green jacket. The sandals are a great neutral color, and I am completely obsessed with the tassels; it must be fun to walk around in these!

Look 2: Heidi’s White Night Look

Heidi Klum sported a bit of an avant-garde look for a recent night out. While her look is not the most practical for a typical college gal, by making a few small changes, I created a similar look below to retain the aesthetic in an accessible way.

Above, Heidi is wearing a white jumpsuit with a deep-V neckline, a black cropped jacket, and red pumps. This look is great for a summer night, when white is totally acceptable (although the no-white-after-labor-day rule is outdated anyway), but could easily work into fall as well.

Jacket, Pants, Top, Shoes, Clutch

For my look inspired by Heidi, I started with a pair of slouchy light gray pants. Harem-style pants are so chic; the slouchy shape is very right-now, and is more wearable than you’d think! I would advise buying these types of pants a tad larger than your normal size, because they won’t have the right silhouette if they cling too tightly to your body.

To accent the pants, tuck in a cowl-neck top, and to show off your waist, add the tie-belt. Layer a cropped leather jacket on top– this one has rough edges around the collar, like Heidi’s. Finally, the red pumps add a hot pop of color, and the feather clutch is a fun accessory that speaks to the progressive look.

Look 3: Leighton Meester’s Easy Neutrals

Leighton looked cool in her neutrals while out and about recently: She was rocking olive-green cargo skinny pants, a beige button-down shirt, brown lace-up heels, a black chain-strap bag, and black square-framed sunglasses.

Cargo-style skinny pants have been popping up on celebs for many weeks now, and I love them not only because they speak to the military trend, but also because they are a fun alternative to skinny jeans, which I live in. Pants like these work for everyday wear, and go with practically everything.

Leighton also rocked a button-down shirt in a neutral color, which is a total college girl must; it’s classic and can be worn a million different ways, in all seasons. Finally, I am drooling over Leighton’s lace-up heels– the style is so sexy, and the aubergine hue makes them stand out among a sea of black gladiator-style heels.

Shirt, Pants, Shoes, Bag, Sunglasses

To recreate Leighton’s look, I started with this utility shirt from Gap; it’s a lightweight, easy top that’s multi-seasonal. I paired it with these amazing olive green biker pants from Topshop, reminiscent of Leighton’s trendy pair.

When I came across these beige lace-up gladiator sandals, I got very excited– they feature a slight heel, which is more manageable for the average college girl than Leighton’s sky-high heels, and the color goes with just about everything! Yet even in a basic color, these shoes are hardly basic. The style is trendy and uncommon– your feet will stand out when you rock these on campus!

To finish off the look, I added the chain strap bag, a chic design that adds a more formal look, and the unique square sunglasses, which reminded me of Leighton’s. The best part about these accessories? Both items look much more expensive than they actually are!

What do you think?

I love look 3, but I’d honestly probably wear skinny jeans instead. I really want a shirt like that!

I always enjoy the celebrities look you choose. The only one I dislike is Heidi Klum’s jumpsuit. I’m not a fan of jumpsuits. But I am in loooooove with the military jacket!

Not that I want summer to be over, but it is exciting to think about our upcoming season’s wardrobe. I loved your transitional looks, esp. the military jacket. I need to buy two jackets, one for me and one for my BFF, do you have any suggestions for one that is a little more affordable since I have to buy two? I really enjoy the way you recreated the looks. thanks!
