Hautelinks: Week of 10/7/10

Hautelinks - your weekly source for the best of the web

As you may have noticed, this post is a little late this week – unfortunately, our server was completely overloaded today and CF was down for most of the evening. Fortunately, it’s all fixed now! Thanks for your patience, guys. Let us know if you notice anything loading slowly or acting funny around the site – it’d be much appreciated.

Now, on to the links! We’ve got quite a few sites to satisfy your procrastination urge tonight, so put off that paper, grab a frosty beverage, and get clicking already!

* The Frisky lists the top 25 most overused words and phrases of the decade. Dude, it’s amazing.

* We love this sweet & girly lipstick shade. So pretty!

* For you future-CEOs, Frock & Roll’s list of business tips, including why you should always grab your own coffee (so true!), are indispensable and very worth reading!

* Commit this to memory: You’re already perfect. Honestly, those words aren’t spoken nearly enough.

* Disney fans, you’re going to love this: Disney just debuted their first-ever line of wedding gowns, inspired by the princesses from their movies!

* Get some Halloween costume inspiration from the QUEEN of Halloween parties, Heidi Klum! She always goes all-out.

* Similarly, Seventeen gives you Halloween inspiration from the hottest celebs.

* How to Mix & Match Fall Jewelry, from Stylelist, will answer all your fall jewelry questions and more!

* So funny: CollegeHumor’s Jersey Shore RPG.

* 10 Celebrities We’d Like to See Dress Normal on Halloween, from Shine.

* This is so weird: apparently, being pear-shaped may make you live longer. Of course, being healthy, no matter your shape, is probably still the best method for longevity. Just sayin’.

* Also health-related: 10 Reasons to Take Nutritional Supplements, from Care2.

* Two more great posts from Care2: why you should buy organic cotton (I had never heard most of that stuff!) and 8 things you didn’t know you could recycle (once again, I had no idea).

* This is old but I just found it and thought it was amazing: 9 Steps Towards a More Interesting Life.

* What we can learn from procrastination, from the New Yorker, is a long but interesting article on why we put things off. In addition, it’s guaranteed to kill some time and help you put off that paper. You’re welcome ;)

* Scary but interesting, especially if you’re a lit nerd: Aldous Huxley versus George Orwell.

* This video got me a little teary-eyed: Tim Gunn opens up about his suicide attempt in a new PSA.

* On a similar note, although it’s potentially offensive (due to language)/maybe non-work-safe, this Open Letter to Lady Gaga is extremely well written and brings up some interesting points about her work in the gay community.

* Love the Chanel Les Khakis collection but don’t want to pay $20+ a bottle for the real thing? Tarte cosmetics shows you how to mix your own DIY versions of the popular shades – for way less!

* Um, pretty sure this is the coolest bike ever?

* Who knew: many foods are good long past their expiration dates. Not that you SHOULD take advantage of this info, but you know…

* If you love American Apparel, rejoice: despite the rumors, they aren’t going away any time soon!

* Funny but serious: Teens Protest Abercrombie & Fitch Perfume. Seriously, you can smell those stores from a mile away.

* Fashionologie gives us the Paris Fashion Week backstage scoop.

* The Dos and Don’ts of Wearing Tights, from Shine, has some good advice for rocking these fall favorites.

* Stop the presses: Anna Wintour was photographed not only SMILING, but making a funny hand gesture! Honestly, I’m almost ready to cry photoshop on this one.

* Refinery 29 shows us some double-duty fashion options. But do they remind anyone else of those zip-away pants we all had from Limited Too back in the day? Weird how fashion comes full-cycle.

That’s it for now! Have a great rest of your Thursday and we’ll see you tomorrow!

They’ve had the disney wedding dresses for at least four years, the designer has just changed from Kristie (Kirsty?) Kelley to Alfred angelo. They’ve always been gorgeous.

The “Do’s and Don’ts of fall tights” was disappointing to me. Honestly, I’m always a little disappointed when I see style “don’ts” included on this list. Especially when put next to amazing articles like “already perfect.” One of the “don’ts” listed in the article were hole-y/distressed tights. While the picture they displayed was not the most attractive example, I think this is a look that can be rocked in a cute fashion forward way.

I wish the articles of the fashion world would focus more on the do-s, ideas and quirky inspiration. Tips regarding dressing for your body type, and the most attractive way to combine pieces are often extremely helpful. However, I don’t think it’s the place of a conservative journalist in an office to make judgements about more daring looks, just because it’s not something that she would personally wear. No more saying “don’t wear that.” Let’s celebrate each other’s unique styles and build each other up ladies!

That’s weird that Disney is saying it’s the first wedding line. The actual first line by Kirstie Kelly, are SO gorgeous.
