Hautelinks: Week of 10/29/09

We’ve got lots of links for you guys this week, including everything from last minute Halloween costumes to tips on improving your life and even the world’s weirdest Facebook groups.
H&M might finally start allowing online shopping from the USA! I really hope the rumors are true – it’s been a long time coming!
Need a cute (and inexpensive) winter coat? WhoWhatWear shows us Winter Coats Under $200!
Rory Freedman, author of the “Skinny Bitch” books, wrote a great article on Tips for a Better Life. A few good ones:
1. Don’t say “yes” when you mean “no.” It’ll make you resentful. Say what you mean and mean what you say.
11. If you are in a room with someone you don’t know, introduce yourself right away. It takes away the social discomfort immediately.
19. Forgive those who have wronged you. Holding onto anger and resentment poisons your body and your life. There are no benefits in staying mad. Let go. It’s okay.
Tips on How to Match Colors is a great video from What Not to Wear’s Stacey and Clinton – just watch out for the random (loud) fuzz at 0:49. Not sure what’s up with that, but it made me jump!
Craftzine has a super cute tutorial on knitting a scarf with your school logo that would be a perfect way to show your spirit at the next football game! You’ll need some basic knitting skills to pull it off, but if you don’t know how, why not learn? Google is your friend.
Jeans Shopping 101 from Daddy Likey has some great, non-standard shopping tips!
If you usually have a hard time finding jeans, steer clear of smaller stores and boutiques, and head straight for large stores with larger selections. There’s nothing worse than trying on every single pair of jeans in a store only to go home empty-handed, convinced you’re some kind of mutant who can’t wear normal clothes, when in fact, the store only offered three different styles.
Show some Halloween spirit with I Heart Daily’s list of Subtly Scary Halloween Accessories, $20 and Under.
Here’s a look at Sonia Rykiel’s H&M lingerie collection. What do you think? Personally, I think it’s a cute idea, but probably won’t be wearable under clothes, which sort of defeats the purpose…
STILL haven’t come up with a Halloween costume? Don’t worry! Here’s an amazing article on last-minute costumes you can do with stuff you already have in your closet! There are enough ideas to suit any style or budget!
Hahaha, Video Break: Two Short Films About Fashion. They explain it best:
Please enjoy comedians Nick Kroll and Jon Daly as they solve crimes while wearing head-to-toe douchewear under the aegis of their mentor Christian Audigier. That’s right, they’re the Ed Hardy Boyz, and they’re going to track down that missing sick belt buckle even if it means going to every free vodka event in town.
Funny or Die also has a video of “outtakes” from James Franco’s Gucci by Gucci fragrance ads. Watch Daniel Desario utterly fail to pronounce the name of the brand, over and over again.
Even more Halloween costume ideas, inspired by the fashion industry! The inclusion of Tavi made me LOL.
Covet Online Designer Consignment Shop… OMG.
CNN Money did an interesting list of 15 stressful jobs that pay badly. As someone with friends who went to school for social work and journalism, this list didn’t surprise me at all.
My Life Is G, an alternative to everyone’s favorite FML, will restore your faith in the world, and will instantly put you in a better mood. Seriously! This one is my fave, haha:
I told me girlfriend I loved her today.
She told me she loved me too.
We proceeded to pretend to be dinosaurs.
MLIG
If you’re not sure what to do with all those summer dresses, here are some tips on wearing them in winter.
Got a spare minute? Help support one of our fashion blogger friends! The fabulous Jordana of Clutch 22, who I met during NY Fashion Week, is one of the finalists for America’s Most Stylish Blogger. Kelly Cutrone dissed her outfit and she needs your votes, so help her out!
I was shocked at this: there are exactly ZERO female writers working in late-night TV. And sexual harassment may be partially to blame.
In Simulated Worlds Online, Consumption Is Still Conspicuous is an article from the NY Times on the fascinating “fashion world” that takes place in Second Life!
The 7 Weirdest Facebook Groups is too funny. I kinda want to join the Shoe Phone Appreciation Society.
That’s all we got for this week! Which links did you like best? Do you have any great links worth checking out? Leave us a comment!

Karla

Hi Zephyr,
The link for Rory Feldman (tips for a better life) goes to the youtube What Not to Wear clip.
The MILG thing is awesome. :)
B.
I was going to post what Suzi and Karla posted, but you’ll probably get the message. Otherwise this is all cool!
Karin
Great post! I’m glad I’m not majoring in any of those low paying stressful jobs. :) “If you are in a room with someone you don’t know, introduce yourself right away. It takes away the social discomfort immediately.” That could not be anymore truthful! I HATE when you think you are going to be introduced to someone and then you never are they the whole situation is just awkward! I love the MyLifeIsG site! I was never really into FML but this site is so cute!
B.
Also, Mylifeisaverage is better than MLIG, you should check it out! :)
vanessa anne
I’d like to add that personally, I think MyLifeisAverage is better than its sister sites.

Hi Zephyr! Thanks for the shout-out! You are so thoughtful! I hope you like my next look…it’s more me, but if the next judge is super classic, she’ll probably diss me. Haha!

You should check out GMH (GivesMeHope.com), it’s just like MLIG, just more popular I think. (:

Thanks for helping me figure out yet another site to surf instead of listening to my professor.
