poonam: Your simple clothing will be fine here in Melbourne. At uni you always find different fashions, mainly neat-casual for example, jeans, boots a casual tee and blazer are usually found in winter, but it is very easy going. Jeans and a sweater, a dress, tights, boots and cardie. Combat boots are still big here, mainly with dresses, tights and leather jackets. Chunky knit wear is also a main feature in most uni-students wardrobes, usually paired with jeans. Heels not so big (usually only the asian girls where them, small heeled boots are usually the only heels worn or slightly heeled wedges) Sorry this is so late for your arrival. Hope you have fun here in Melbourne! Prepare for all the four seasons in one day!

hey girls…i read all ur comment rite here..as m planning to come here in australia melbourne i need some info about casual fashion over there.. i like to wear very simple clothes like jeans and simple t-shirts..these comments hav been posted at starting of the year..plz let me know if there is any change in fashion for college going girl..plz give some suggestions wat kinda clothes and other things should i bring …my arrival might be in the starting of july..i ll really appreciate if u can give me some good tips regarding this..

Im going to Wollongong February 12th! And the only thing I’m worried about is shoes… should I bring a pair of fuax leather boots for when it gets colder around may/june? Otherwise im just brining sandals, heels, gladiator sandals, and flats.

hey all! just been reading all the above comments and they have been quiet interesting!! i am from ireland and I am heading over to australia in May untill the end of July not for college or anything just 4 d summer (well summer 4 me) hope its ok to leave this comment as its not really about college fashion… more so fashion ovr der in general…i am going to perth and will prob be travellin east coast i tink!! im tinkin jeans, and flowy tops, dresses (love dresses) and il be bringin tights/leggins and what kinda boots should I be brinign..i ave alot of ankle type booties both (flats and heels) wuld dey be gud!!!and shuld i b taken hoodies and stuff with me…and what clothes ar good 4 nite tym ovr der? id be really greatful 4 any help or suggestions.. sorry bout all d question!!! :-D im super excited about gettin ovr to d gorgeous australia. x

@Courtney I go to USyd and not that many people wear UGGS. The college students (i.e. the ones who live on campus) wear trackies and uggs more than everyone else. I wear a lot of dresses – the weather can be warm up until about April sometimes. I also wear dresses in winter (teamed with tights and boots) and a lot of jeans/cardi combos. I’m a fairly girly girl though so some people don’t wear dresses as much as me.

I’m assuming you’ll be here for at least a semester, and once Autumn hits (or fall for you I guess) the weather can be a bit unpredictable. We can get the 4 seasons in one day type thing happening. It is super humid at the moment and I’m hoping it dissipates by the end of Feb. It’s a bit hot for jeans atm but by the time uni starts, you’ll definitely want them. A light jacket or cardi is perfect for going out til about April when it may get a bit cooler at night. You won’t need a trench or anything heavy duty til about June.

I am going to Griffith Uni @ the Gold Coast in a month!! I’m so excited but what is the weather like now? I will be there from feb- end of June…how cold will it get?? I’m most worried about shoes and coats. I hear that now is like the heart of summer but that it can get cool in the evenings? is this true? Also, by like May/June will it be cold enough that I will need a jacket? Also, as for shoes im thinking flats, flip flops, and nice flat boots…then heels for going out at night….Am I on the right track? Any help would be appreciated!! THanks

I’ll be studying abroad in Sydney starting in Feb and the comments above gave kind of mixed reviews. Sounds like Uggs are slippers, leave them at home? What about a pair of flat boots I usually wear with skinny jeans – too hot for these? For everyday should I bring lots of sundresses or stick with shorts (apparently jean shorts). And for as for a light jacket for going out, like a cardigan sweater, leather jacket, cotton blazer… ? Any suggestions? Thanks!!

check the weather on a weather site, the year long one.
i live in melbourne but have been to brisbane. although yes most of the time it is reasonably warm there are times when it is colder and warmer things will be needed. so bring your favourites but dont bring too many.
