Runway Looks for Less: Surface to Air Fall 2011
Sometimes when it comes to getting dressed, simplicity is the keyword we have in mind. As busy college girls, we often have so much else on our minds (school, work, extracurriculars, friendships, relationships, the list goes on…) that style can end up taking a backseat. With that busy spirit in mind, the brand Surface to Air has created looks for girls who want outfits that are both quick and stylish.
According to Style.com, Surface to Air is a brand for the “globalized, multi-hyphenate generation”. For Fall 2011, Surface to Air created a collection that is perfect inspiration for every way-too-busy college girl. After all, the looks are built around staples that you likely already own.

Look #1: Comfy Cute
In this look Surface to Air shows us that comfort and style aren’t mutually exclusive. By combining a few simple items – a fuzzy cardigan, soft denim, and cozy boots – Surface to Air creates a look that oozes simplicity, comfort and effortless style.
Getting the Look

{Jeans, Sweater, Bracelet, Boots}
To recreate this look, start with a pair of light wash jeans and pair them with a cozy grey leopard print sweater. Add a pair of dark green lace booties. For accessories, keep things very minimal, adding just a pair of simple gold bangles. This outfit is perfect for sipping cocoa by the fire with your winter crush or playing board games with friends – you’ll look chic without looking overdone.
Look #2: Polished Patterns
You may be in college, but you’re never too old to add a hint of preppy schoolgirl style to your wardrobe. Here, Surface to Air creates a look that’s the perfect mixture of school girl femininity and rugged, slightly undone style.
Getting the Look

{Blouse, Blazer, Necklace, Skirt, Boots, Bracelet, Bag}
To recreate this look, start with a basic grey tweed skirt. Pair with a simple light grey pinstripe blouse and layer on a cropped grey blazer. Add a pop of color with some bright red suede booties. For jewelry, add a chic watch necklace paired with a sleek gold bangle, and for a bag, try a grey satchel. To add an extra layer of warmth, layer on a black cape and black opaque tights.
Look #3: Glitz and Glam
In this look, Surface to Air has combined glitz and glam to create an irresistibly fun ensemble. This look is built around a couple of daring pieces – some killer leather slacks and maroon oxfords. The outcome is a simple yet statement-making look that’s perfect for your next party.
Getting the Look

{Pants, Top, Coat, Bracelet, Heels, Clutch}
To wear this bold look yourself, start with a pair of faux leather leggings, and pair them with a sequined top and red suede booties. Accessorize with a bold jeweled cuff and two-toned envelope clutch. Add warmth with a white peacoat. This look is perfect for any New Years Eve event.

Love the rather casual, British-countryside feel of the runway looks, but I think the look-alike outfits are all slightly more formal than the originals. They are cute, but I’d like to see a bit more ease and effortlessness in them.

I love the first look!
Overall, though, I prefer the look-alike outfits to the original runway ones. :) I’d wear all the look-alikes, but only the first runway look.
