Runway Looks for Less: Boy Meets Girl Fall 2011
While we all love to follow the runways in search of inspiration, most ready-to-wear collections are filled with outfits that leave us thinking “Amazing, but where in the world would I wear that?”
Fashion brand Boy Meets Girl, however, is different. Their Fall 2011 runway collection was absolutely filled with outfits and pieces that would be right at home in a stylish college girl’s wardrobe… no guesswork required.
The face behind the brand, Stacy Igel, built Boy Meets Girl to fill a void. According to her website, Stacy recognized the need for an “edgy yet wearable, stylish yet casually classic brand in a young contemporary marketplace.” Boy Meets Girl provides young women with pieces that are both stylish and wearable for every occasion.
Want to get Boy Meets Girl’s edgy yet comfortable style? Check out our recreations of 3 looks from their Fall 2011 show.
Look #1:
Nothing is more basic than a graphic tee. But in this look, Boy Meets Girl puts an edgy twist on this ubiquitous item, by pairing it with cool, downtown-chic pieces. The outfit overall is simple, comfortable and extremely stylish – perfect for wearing on campus.
Getting the Look

{Shirt, Pants, Jacket, Scarf, Bracelet, Booties}
What I love most about Boy Meets Girl is that their outfits are comprised of basics you should already own, making their looks easy to recreate.
For this look, start out with a pair of army green skinny jeans, and pair them with your favorite black and white graphic tee. Layer on a black varsity style jacket, and keep accessories simple, adding a black snood and a braided bracelet. Finish it all off with black lace-up wedge booties.
Look #2:
In this look, Boy Meets Girl creates the perfect combination of sweet and sass by combining edgy pieces like a graphic tee, body con skirt and fierce boots with feminine colors and dainty bow tights. This pretty, edgy look would be perfect for a fun night out.
Getting the Look

{Shirt, Blazer, Tights, Skirt, Shoes, Belt, Bangles}
To recreate this look, start with a basic graphic tee of your choice. Pair it with a black body con skirt and add black bow tights for warmth and style. For the feminine feel, add on a light pink blazer. Accessorize with edgy pieces like a gold bar clasp belt and black bangles, and fnish the ensemble off with black lace-up booties.
Look #3:
Simplicity is the key to dressing in college, as time and money often don’t allow for much else. Boy Meets Girl has mastered the art of stylish yet simple ensembles, exemplified in this look. Here, the brand pairs together basics like shorts, a feminine blouse and a winter jacket to create a chic ensemble.
Getting the Look

{Top, Sweater, Jacket, Shorts, Necklace, Tights, Booties}
While some of you may already be feeling the bitter winter chill, those of us in the lower states (and even the Northeast!) are still experiencing fall weather. The shorts-and-tights combo is perfect for wearing to class when you’re battling not-so-cold weather.
Start building this look with a feminine top, like this sheer polka dot tank. Layer with a grey cardigan and a grey pea coat, and pair with classic black shorts layered over black opaque tights. Keep your accessorizes minimal with a basic pendant necklace like this gold key pendant, and add black wedge booties for edge. This outfit is perfect for the girl on the go: It’s comfortable for class, lunch with friends, meetings, and study halls. You could even swap the booties for heels and wear it out to dinner with your boyfriend.

Out of all these looks, my favorite is look number 2 because the pop of pink against the edgy graphic tee is feminine and masculine at the same time. I would also wear the tights for a more grown up look.
Stephanie
I <3 the second outfit…This is a great post! =)
Shmee
Oh my word, are those smiles and smirks on those models’ faces? Expressions?? The clothes are lovely but they’re even better on a real human being with real human expressions. I dig.
Jenny in Jacquard
The third outfit is definitely my favorite. I love the monochromatic layers with a touch of pink, although my I might swap out the lace-up boots for something a little more simple.
Katelin
The girl in the picture on the left looks like Mia Wallace from Pulp Fiction.
Oh and I really like the first and second look.
Chloe
Loving the third outfit!
Lilly
Cute! Would definitely rock that first outfit! Thanks for the ideas :)

Hi! This is a great article.
I’m just wondering why you didn’t use some of Boy Meets Girl’s items in your recreation outfits? Like, these tights (http://shop.boymeetsgirlusa.com/product/BG1051/Boy-Meets-Girl-Tight.html) for look #2? I LOVE THE BOY MEETS GIRL tights! They’re uber cute and actually for sale on their website!
Cute outfits though :)

The first and third looks are my favorite! I would definitely wear those outfits :)
Rachel
Love them all, but I would never be able to wear those shoes on a school day because I am usually trekking across campus! I’ll be swapping those out for something low-heeled. Otherwise these are fabulous.

I like your outfit ideas better than the runway stuff!!!
