Summers are filled with sun, vacations, and for a lot of us… internships. Once you’ve landed the internship of your dreams, it’s time to open the closet doors and pick out outfits that say “I represent this company well.” Obviously, different companies have different dress code standards, but most internships require their interns to dress business casual.

The perfect business casual internship outfit is one that projects a professional, polished image without sacrificing comfort. The right outfit will make a good impression, without being too intimidating or over-the-top. With those traits in mind, here are three affordable business casual outfits perfect for your summer internship!

Outfit 1: Classic Cool

This outfit is classic business casual: a white blouse with grey slacks and closed toe pumps. I added in a cute, inexpensive necklace to give the outfit a little bit of color, and chose pumps with interesting detailing for extra interest. This look is an example of how to spice up business casual outfits with small details so they are still appropriate, but not cookie-cutter. Add in a structured tote to hold your laptop and writing tools, and you are set!

Internship Outfit 1

Products: Shoes- Lori’s Shoes, Blouse- Forever 21, Slacks- Styles for Less, Necklace- Forever 21

Outfit 2: Working Girl

This outfit has a fairly neutral color palette, but, again, I’ve added a pop of color: this time with red flats. The overall look is still very conservative and classic, but also more youthful and girly than the previous outfit. To make this outfit more conservative, I recommend adding a different belt to this outfit or going without. (The rope belt that comes with the dress doesn’t scream “work appropriate,” although it also doesn’t violate any work dress code rules, as far as I know.)

Internship outfit 3

Products: Earrings- Forever 21, Dress- Shop Ruche, Blazer- Old Navy, Red Flats- Kurt Gieger

Outfit 3: Foolproof Office Wear

This outfit is the epitome of professional clothing! It is more formal than Outfit #2, and is perfect if you’re not sure what to wear to work. (Like they always say: when in doubt, it’s always better to overdress than underdress!) The color palette is tame and the pieces can be mixed-and-matched with other business casual items to create a diverse work wardrobe without spending lots of money. The thick heeled pumps are perfect for you 9-5 types because (as we all know), walking around the office in unstable shoes is a nightmare!

Products: Pumps- Urban Outfitters, Bracelet- Forever 21, Skirt- Forever 21, Blouse- Dorothy Perkins

Great outfits! I really love the second one, and the shoes from the last one (although the shoes look more pink than red to me, maybe i’m just colorblind though haha) . awesome post :)

The skirt in the last office is way too short to wear to the office.

I really liked the outfits you put together. Another way I have found to save on office looks is by going to outlets and stores like Marshall’s and Filene’s Basement. The outlets have basics for $20 off what some of the pieces normally cost and they are still good quality. I actually have many work dresses from Marshall’s! You have to be in the right mood to hit those types of stores, but it is way worth it in the end! I am just not a fan of buying Forever 21 things for the office, they are too cheap looking sometimes, and I think office clothes are worth investing more than $10-$15 on a shirt.
