Independence Day Style: What to Wear on the 4th of July
As all of our American readers know, the 4th of July is quickly approaching!
If you’re in the mood to be extra patriotic for Independence Day, but aren’t quite sure how to put something suitable together while still looking chic, never fear – we’ve got you covered! Here are five stylish 4th of July outfit ideas.
Outfit #1: Beachy

Bikini – Shoes – Hat – Bag – Cover-up – Sunglasses – One-piece
If you’re planning on spending the 4th by the water, this is the perfect outfit for you. Flat, white sandals are easy to wear and they’ll go with pretty much anything in your closet, so you can keep rocking them all summer. Try pairing a patriotic cover-up with a suit like Madewell’s red-and-white striped bikini; if two-pieces aren’t your thing, Topshop’s navy and blue polka dot one-piece is a great alternative. Remember your sunglasses and a floppy hat for extra sun protection, and – most important of all – don’t forget to pack your sunscreen in a large tote bag like this one from Longchamp.
Outfits #2 & 3: Casual

Bag – Top – Shorts – Necklace – Shoes
Opting for a casual look? Pair Topshop’s American Flag shorts with an oversized summer knit, like this one from Free People. Add pops of color with a blue statement necklace and a bright red bag (the one pictured is Rebecca Minkoff’s super-versatile MAC clutch). Classic sandals from Salt-Water are perfect for summer, and they’re reasonably priced to boot!

Hat – Skirt – Tank – Shoes – Shirt – Necklace – Bag
If you don’t think you have what it takes to pull off those outrageous flag shorts, you might prefer a casual outfit that’s a little more toned-down. Pair a blue pleated skirt with bright red shoes, and tie the look together with We the Free’s American Flag tank (or a solid white top, like this side-tie one from Madewell, if you prefer). A fun, colorful necklace will really make this a standout look.
Outfits #4 & 5: Dressy

Shoes – Dress – Necklace – Bag – Lipstick – Nail polish
Looking for something a little more dressy? Pair a white dress (this lace number from Topshop is pretty rad) with a bold, red necklace and navy espadrilles, which are perfect for summer. Add that “extra oomph” with a red lip color and/or nail polish – try MAC’s Russian Red lipstick, which is blue-based and super flattering on a huge range of skin tones!

Bag – Shoes – Dress – Necklace – Lipstick - Nail polish
If a little red dress is more your thing, try a red bodycon frock paired with a long blue necklace, like this one by Wendy Mink. Sky-high white pumps will complete your color palette, but don’t forget your makeup and nails! Again, try a bold red lipstick like MAC’s Russian Red, and maybe a blue nail polish; this one is Essie’s Aruba Blue.
What do you think?
Are you planning on rocking red, white and blue, or do you think it’s too much? What are you going to wear for the 4th? Any exciting Independence Day plans? Let us know!

Any suggestions for if it’s 50 degrees? Nights in Colorado are always 20-30 degrees less than daytime temps, so 80 degree days can easily have 50 degree nights…. it’s a love-hate relationship for me.
Anyways, any ideas for looking patriotic and WARM?

That last outfit is simply gorgeous!

the rebecca minkoff bags look great, and I’m obsessed with the beachy look! great job!

I’m loving the ultra laid back feel from number 2. Those shorts are ridiculous and amazing at the same time :)

Bonus outfit: Canada Day (July 1st) outfit(s)? :D

love the second outfit soooo much…wish i could pull off shorts like that! The third outfit is cute too but i would probably replace the skirt with shorts. However I’ll definitely be dressed for the pool and a bbq, like outfit 1.

I agree Leah! An alternate/add on for outfits for cooler nights or hanging out lakeside (not just on this article either) would be fantastic!

Totally obsessed with all the outfits you picked out, I cannot pick a favorite! :o I admit I’m not the type to usually go all about on dressing for the 4th of July, but maybe I’ll reconsider! Thank-you SO much for the inspiration! :)

Outfit #1 is my favorite since it doesn’t scream “4th of July ” quite as much.

I love outfits 3 and 4! Super cute!

I’m not American, but I must say that it’s very nice that you people want to dress up in your country’s colors on such a special day! :) In my country we only do it on football games, actually we just put the make up in patriotic colors. :P Such a shame xD Outfit number 4 is my favourite, altough I’d wear a blue bag, blue is somehow underrated in that outfit. :)
Aerica
this is really nice :)
think you could do one for us Canadian girls? Canada Day is coming up soon too :D
Ayla
I second the call for Canada Day outfits!
PS I love the 4th outfit, even though I don’t know where I’d wear an American Independence Day themed outfit haha

great outfits, but it would be lovely to see some in the future that are more affordable for a college student! a $300 rebecca minkoff bag, while stylish and beautiful, isn’t practical for me as a student to purchase right now!

i love the second outfit so much. The third outfit is cute too but i would probably replace the skirt with shorts. However I will definitely be dressed for the pool like outfit 1.
