Whether you’re going shopping with your mom, spending the day with your boyfriend, or getting coffee with your best friends, your weekend wardrobe should be comfortable, fun, trendy, and perhaps a little more pulled-together than your go-to look for class. You want a look that shows off your personal style, but doesn’t make it seem like you are trying too hard – after all, weekends are all about having fun.

Stumped for what to wear on your next Saturday outing? Here are some trendy and fun essentials for casual weekends:

1. Relaxed Pants

Relaxed pants

Product Information: Outfit#1: Oxford – Forever 21, Utility pants – Gap, Heels – Piperlime, Belt – Accessorize, Bow bag – Accessorize, Pearl earrings – Forever 21 Outift#2: Sailor Jeans – Arden B, Striped shirt – American Eagle, Flats – Urban Outfitters, Scarf – Old Navy, Blazer – Anthropologie, Bangle – Fossil

While skinny jeans are fashionable and fabulous, sometimes it’s nice to switch things up a bit. A relaxed pant can be a great piece to work into your weekend wardrobe. The utility trend is popular for spring and cargo pants are an easy way to get the look without going overboard. If cargo pants aren’t your thing, a wide leg jean is another fashionable skinny jean alternative. Pair your wide-leg jeans with nautical inspired add-ons for a trendy spring look.

2. Trendy Flats

With spring right around the corner (fingers crossed), everyone on campus will soon be switching from boots and sneakers to more warm-weather-appropriate footwear. Ballet flats are the perfect footwear for spring – they go with most outfits and hemlines, and are comfy enough for walking around campus or spending a day at the park. Here are some tips on wearing flats with favorites you already own:

  • Check out Kyla (of Blue Collar Catwalk)’s tips on making flats work with tights: part one and part two.
  • Don’t be afraid to go bold! A colorful or embellished ballet flat can add personality to an otherwise ho-hum ensemble.
  • Don’t miss our article, How to Find the Perfect Everyday Ballet Flat. There are tons of great (and affordable) options featured, plus tips on how much to spend and where to buy your flats.

3. Embellished Tops

A blouse with a detailed neckline is perfect for pairing with your favorite worn-in jeans or tucking into a fun skirt (the next item on my list). Weekend wear should be carefree and comfortable, and an embellished top makes getting dressed easy – just throw it on and go.

4. Flirty Skirt

A girly and fun skirt works well for many different occasions, and can be dressed up or down with a simple change of accessories. I love floral prints for spring, but solid or polka dotted skirts, like the ones below, are just as fun. If you aren’t comfortable with a mini, go with something that hits just above the knee for maximum comfort.

So, what do you think?

Would you switch out your go-to denim for a more relaxed look? What are your favorite looks for casual weekend activities? Do you have some tips on making flats work with tricky items? I’d love to hear from you, so please leave a comment.

Love this post! I’m a big advocate of casual dresses and skirts as alternatives to jeans – the polka dot skirt with the bow-embellished top would be absolutely adorable. :)

BTW, the photo at the top is too cute!
