You know those days – the ones where you roll out of bed (after hitting the snooze button too many times), stumble into your closet, and have no idea what to wear? Our new series, Easy Outfit Formulas, is here to help! Every other week, I’ll feature two items (which you probably already own) that can be paired into outfits for those days when you need some quick and easy inspiration.

For this week’s installment of Easy Outfit Formulas, we’re featuring skater dresses and heeled ankle booties! Both are classic back-to-school pieces: you can wear them throughout the year, in warm weather or cold. (Just add some extra layers!) Plus, with so many styles to choose from, you’re sure to find a skater dress and a pair of booties that you love.

Outfit #1 – Here Comes Fall

For this look, we’re showing you how to transition the skater-dress-and-booties combo into fall weather. Start with a printed dress in muted tones and a pair of comfy brown ankle booties with a low heel. Next, throw on an olive green anorak and some gray knee-high socks for warmth. Swipe some pretty ruby polish and slip on a cute bird ring and simple studs for a bit of sparkle. And don’t forget to grab a classic leather satchel on your way out the door!

Outfit #2 – Country Cutie

If your school’s fall weather is on the warmer side, try out this cute look. Start with a floral skater dress leftover from your summer wardrobe, and slip on your favorite pair of western booties. Then add a cozy cardigan in a bright color (preferably one that goes with your dress, like this sky blue cardi). Use a brown woven belt to accentuate your waist, and choose some simple yet feminine jewelry that won’t compete with the dress.

Grab a graphic canvas tote for a unique and vintage-y touch. Wear your hair up in a pretty, soft milkmaid braid, paint your nails in a light pink shade, and your ensemble is complete!

Outfit #3 – Lady of the Night

Here’s a fun outfit for a night on the town – even in chilly weather! To start, pick an interesting skater dress in a jewel tone, like this burgundy one with trendy cut-outs, and a pair of studded black high-heel booties. If you’re worried about staying warm, add a pair of black lace tights and a classic black moto jacket.

For some effortless cool, wear your hair in a messy side bun, but add some statement earrings to keep your look dressy. Lastly, grab an eye-catching metallic clutch to hold your essentials, and enjoy your night out!
