Color Combo to Try: Hunter Green + Goldenrod

Color Combo to Try: Hunter Green + Goldenrod

If you ever find yourself stuck in a style rut, playing with fun new color combinations is a great way to liven up your wardrobe. In this series, we feature unique and unexpected color combinations, then give you stylish outfit ideas so you can try out these color combos yourself. For more color-centric outfit ideas, be sure to check out our previous posts in this series.

In our last Color Combo post, CF reader Su requested some outfits incorporating hunter green, and now that September has rolled around, it seemed like prime time to feature this autumnal hue. When it comes to a fun shade that “goes” with this dark green, we were drawn to goldenrod, a deep yellow hue. This rich combination has a really collegiate feel – perfect for showing off your back-to-school style chops!

Need some outfit ideas before you rock this color combo? Simply scroll on down to check out four stylish outfits featuring goldenrod and hunter green:

Outfit #1: Casual Cool

Create a comfy yet stylish everyday look by pairing some hunter green jeggings with a striped tee. Lace-up boots continue the fashionable vibe, while a goldenrod circle scarf contrast nicely with the color of the jeggings. Accessorize with a fun watch and several bangles for a cute and casual fall ensemble.

Outfit #2: Vintage Charm

Just like the previous outfit, this one features goldenrod as an accent, which is ideal if you’re feeling a little color shy. Start with a vintage-inspired hunter green dress and a pair of oxfords for a girly yet low-key look. Sculptural earrings continue the vintage vibe, while this structured handbag adds a bold pop of color. For the finishing touch, style your hair into some loose waves.

Outfit #3: Fun & Dressy

For a bold yet polished look, try tucking a drapey hunter green top into a goldenrod-hued skirt. Define your waistline with a belt – this leopard one adds a fashionable touch without overpowering the rest of the outfit. Add a pair of cute ballet flats, then accessorize with a gold chain link necklace. Lastly, add a hint of sparkle to your nails by painting them with a glam, gold-flecked polish.

Outfit #4: Trendy & Laid-Back

This final ensemble is the perfect blend of laid-back and polished. Start by tucking a polka dot blouse into a pair of boyfriend jeans, then layer on a fitted hunter green blazer. As far as footwear goes, we opted for some moccasins – the metallic finish on this pair lends a fashion-forward touch to these ultra-comfy shoes. Mimic the bronze shade of the mocs with the accessories. In this case, an adorable owl-shaped ring and pyramid stud earrings add the finishing touches to this look.

I absolutely love these colors together. It’s a nice transition into fall with the pop of yellow over a darker, cool hunter green. I can’t wait to be rockin this combo this fall.

Also, I’m LOVING all the faux leather details. You guys should do a style set of 3-5 outfits on how to incorporate all of those statement pieces we’re seeing now.

Would a hunter green dress go with goldenrod tights? If so, what shoe color do you guys recommend?

    Waiting to hear back!

olivia07 – I love the way a-line skirts look with combat boots, but I think maxi skirts work well too!

Su – You’re welcome! So glad you like the color combo.

Anna – Yes, I think those would look awesome together and I would pair them with a brown, tan, or even a gray shoe. Hope this helps!
