Class to Night Out: Sheer Blouse

Do you struggle with transforming your outfits from day to night? Don’t worry, CF is here to help turn that daily annoyance into a fun challenge. This column will focus on one piece per week, and teach you how to take your look from study sessions in the library to dancing the night away.

Here at CF, we’ve already discussed how transition season can be a total drag. March’s freezing cold mornings and sunny afternoons are no picnic, especially when it comes to deciding on an outfit. That’s why I’ve decided to center this week’s post on a transitional weather wardrobe essential – a sheer blouse.

Sheer blouses are the ultimate layering piece for spring weather. They come in all sorts of fun colors and their light material makes them perfect for breezy strolls around campus. Sport them under a cute blazer or an oversized cardigan (or both) and you’ve got just enough coverage for cold mornings that you can quickly remove once the sun comes out. They’re also the perfect combination of casual-cute and formal attire, which means you can wear them day or night! (Just be sure to remember to wear something under yours!)

To dress down your blouse, wear it with a pair of basic skinny jeans and tall brown boots. Choosing a blouse in a fashion-forward color (I’m so obsessed with fuchsia right now – how about you?) and a fun, subtle print will also help you avoid looking stuffy or overly buttoned-up. Accessorize with contrasting jewelry, like these gorgeous turquoise pieces, and celebrate springtime with a floral-print canvas bag. Bonus points for matching floral earrings!

Sheer blouses are also great for dressier, more conservative nights out. Fancy dinner date, anyone?

Pull on a pair of super-skinny black jeans to feel instantly more dressed-up. Keep up with the floral theme from your class look with a pair of flowery almond-toe heels and leafy patterned gold teardrop earrings. Tie the look together with a chic, simple cross-body bag – I’m loving this pale pink one because it perfectly matches the flowers on the shoes!

Your thoughts?

Let me know in the comments if you plan on incorporating a sheer blouse into your spring transition wardrobe. Do you like the outfits? I’d love to hear what you think!

What can you wear under them? I know that tank/spaghetti-strapped tops and bandeaus are options, but are there any others?

I like these but I don’t think they’d work well on my body. Although I have never tried one on so I could give it a shot I suppose, gotta take some fashion risks ;]

I love the floral high heels though those are so cute and would add such a nice touch to the outfit.

I love the outfits you put together here! Sheer blouses are a staple spring essential in my house. I usually wear nude-color spaghetti strap tanks underneath them and they don’t really show much.

I also LOVE those floral shoes. I just went into H&M and they have tons of shirts, blouses, pants, etc. with a very similar pattern, just in case anyone is interested!

Quick little FYI – when I click on “Bag” from Outfit #1, it takes me to Boots. Boots takes me to Jeans, Earrings takes me to the bag, Ring goes to the Earrings, Jeans take me to the top, and Blouse takes me to the brown top from the first image. I believe somebody, somewhere, has got her links crossed. Not sure if it is the same case with the second outfit!

I love both of these outfits, and I am definitely going to pick up some more sheer blouses, especially since they are so versatile – I can work them into my work wardrobe, and my weekend wear really easily! Thanks for the tip!!

    Craziest timing!!

I’ve borrowed a sheer black blouse from a friend to wear to a party tonight and I’ve been trying to find a way to wear it all week.

I’ve decided to pair it with a pink mini, black opaque tights and brogues.

@Nicole I wouldn’t wear just a bra, but I think any cami, tank top or bandeau would look great, depending on the style you’re going for!

I love all of these tops and the outfit ideas! You should create a post about what to wear UNDER the sheer blouse. I keep buying them, but sometimes just a plan tank under them doesn’t work.

If you’re going for this style this weekend, you could try to pair it with a nude colored cami that fits you well.

Agree with Nicole & Alexandra. I would love to see a post on what to wear under sheer clothing.

Love sheer blouses–I personally like wearing them tucked into high-waisted pleated skirts.

Sheer blouses are love! I love the first look. The blue and the red hues together are perfect.. I agree that a cami would look nice to wear under the sheer blouse.

I LOVE these outfits! & Crazy thing is, I have a shirt almost exactly like this from Forever21. I think that $45 is a little steep to pay for a shirt, so here is the link to the shirt I bought!

I bought it in stores, so mine is pink. (: But the colors here are cute too! <3

the sheer trend is one of my favorites. it’s definitely an evening standard so you can show off a cute bandeau or bra while still looking classy. i’m in tel aviv right now and the sheer also keeps me cool, so why not indulge? :)
