OPI to Release Collection Inspired by “Oz: The Great and Powerful”
OPI recently announced they would be releasing a collection inspired by the upcoming flick Oz: the Great and Powerful. The movie serves as a prequel to The Wizard of Oz, and will star Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, and Michelle Williams, with James Franco as the eponymous wizard.
In addition to three soft neutral shades and three glitter-packed polishes, the polish collection will also include an addition to OPI’s new “Liquid Sand” line, which creates a cool matte glitter effect.
The limited-edition collection will be available at OPI retailers nationwide starting in March and each polish is set to retail for $9.

I like!! They’re so fun.

I’ll admit I’m a little disappointed. I was hoping for a nice glittery emerald, but they’re all actually really nice. I like them. Especially ‘When Monkeys Fly’.
Sarah
Those are terrible! No fun colors, not even a green. I’m so disappointed in OPI lately.
Milana
Oh wow! This is one beautiful collection. I am a huge fan of OPI (wearing Shrimp Cajun right now ;)) and would love to own this collection, or at least the sparkly ones ;-)
Alex
What a bizarre collection for an “oz” theme. No ruby slippers red, wicked witch green, or yellow brick road colors. It’s very…bland.
That being said, I’d totally buy all these colors, they look pretty and wearable.
Sam
Yeah, I agree with Alex, a collection like this had a lot more potential. Seriously not even a faintly shimmery emerald? Glittery ruby? Tin-man chrome (I don’t know if he’s in this, but you know, e.g.)?
Ava
I think this is a refreshing take, and I love all the colors. I think emerald green and ruby red would be too cliché for this movie. If it was The Wizard of Oz, then yes. But this is a fresh take on an old story and I think it needed a surprising collection like this. Will def be buying these :)
Alyssa Nicole
Love the neutrals and I can see myself wearing these in the springtime :)
Ella
Like many other readers said, wheres the glittering red and emerald??? These colors are really pretty though, but thought for sure they’d have a sparkling red color!

Hey everyone! I agree, definitely an interesting choice in colors for this collection– excited to see how it correlates with the film after it’s released.
Since, it’s a prequel though, I don’t know if the ruby red slippers will be making an appearance this time around. Also, not sure how closely this movie is following the book, but in the original novel the slippers were actually silver!
Kelli
I am surprised the colors are so soft, they’re gorgeous but when I think of Oz I think of glitter and bright colors. But, like it’s been pointed out, this is the prequel, so I guess I’ll just have to see the movie to see how it ties in.
I always love a new polish collection though, not gonna complain!
Rora and the City
I totally agree with Alex. They are great colors and I would totally wear them also, but this is the Wizard of Oz! Let’s at least get ruby red and emerald.
Stephanie
I’m really disappointed with the lack of emerald green, but I do really like the colors available.
Camille
I love all of the pretty pinks in this collection, as well as the sparkles!
Kristina
The liquid sand one looks nice, but all the colors are too similar to each other and a little bland!
Ashley
I like this collection! I don’t wear nailpolish a lot, and all of what I do own are glitters of some sort, and all but one or two of which are soft colours, so that might be why I like these. And to echo others, this movie is a prequel, not The Wizard of Oz itself, and yes, the slippers in the novel were silver, not red. The slippers have varied in style and colour from telling to telling (silver, red, changes between silver and red depending on the light, silver to red after Elphaba casts a spell on them, maybe more), so, while I would have liked a sparkly green that was actually a nice shade of green, I’m not surprised there’s no sparkly red.
Me
To those of you disappointed by the colour choices, Dorothy isn’t in this film, and even she were her slippers are silver, not red. If you want a green do what they do in the book, paint your nails silver and strap specs with green glass in to your head. Simples :).
Samantha
I’m so excited for more soft spring shades from OPI! I usually get the more saturated colors but all of a sudden want pinks so this news is perfect!
I’ll definitely get Don’t Burst My Bubble and Lights Of Emerald City. Probably a couple of others too once I see the swatches.
