Mulberry for Target

Earlier this week, Mulberry announced its upcoming collaboration with Target. The brand of leather goods didn’t specify the price range for their Target collection, but it surely will be a fraction of what their luxury lines cost.

Mulberry recently created a fashion frenzy with the Alexa bag (pictured above).  The messenger-tote bag hybrid was inspired by former MTV host and fashion muse Alexa Chung.  It’s so sought after that the waiting list is reported to contain thousands of eager buyers.

The Bayswater tote (pictured below), however, is Mulberry’s most iconic piece.  It features a timeless shape and comes in a variety of colors. Here’s hoping the Target collection features incarnations of both the Alexa and Bayswater looks!

The limited edition collection of lower-priced handbags is set to hit shelves on October 10th, 2010 and will be available through December 24th.  But let’s face it, it’ll be sold out within a matter of minutes.

What are your thoughts?

Will you be scouring your local Target stores this fall for the Mulberry collection?  Do you have experience with previous Target-designer collaborations? Let us know what you think and leave a comment!

Any word if this collection will be leather? I sure hope so or it will degrade Mulberry as a high end line.

Grrr. Much as I used to love designer collaborations, as a proud Bayswater owner, i’m afraid that this collaboration will destroy the integrity of my beloved bag. What I love about Mulberry is that it isn’t entirely mainstream- it’s more English heritage than high fashion. Collaborations like this will obviously change that image… like Alice Temperly for Target.

Oh I agree! If they look like the above, I’m so getting one. Would love to have that black bag! Can’t wait to see what they bring!

wish it was being released sooner! and hopefully mulberry won’t stoop down to the level of fake leather for this collab.

am i the only one who think the bayswater looks a bit too much like the birkin?

and @ Emma M, I really don’t think Mulsberry will become that much of a big name/mainstream due to this collaboration. Alice Temperly hardly is, and it seems like most of the people who gobble up the designer collabs are people who are already fashion-conscious anyway, or just so happen to like the product. I hardly think this will “cheapen

It does look like Birkin bags they are super cute hopefully the material is good cause when I went to H&M for Jimmy Choo it was not cute

Oooooh….. I love Mulberry bags but they are way out of my price range. Hopefully this collaboration will bring some cute and affordable bags.

My guess is that they will not be leather. Leather will keep that price tag up and then what would be the point of collaborating with Target?
