MAC has teamed up with makeup artist Mickey Contractor to launch a limited edition line of cosmetics. Contractor, who has over 30 years’ experience as a makeup artist for many of Bollywood’s biggest stars, used his experience to create an exclusive collection of foundations and concealers for Indian and other olive-colored skin tones.

Contractor explained that he wanted to create a cosmetics collection to help women with skin pigmentation and discoloration problems:

“Outside of India, they’ll also work beautifully on Hispanic, Mediterranean and Middle Eastern skins, which can also have similar issues with pigmentation.”

The full range of products will include everything from lipsticks and blushes to eyeshadow pots and palettes. In addition to neutral shades, the collection will also incorporate lots of teal, green, fuchsia and plum-colored hues.

According to Stylelist, the MAC and Mickey Contractor Collection will launch on January 6th in stores and online. Prices in the collection range from $14.50 to $36.

this sounds like a great idea! i just wish they would do something like this for pale skin, too. even mac’s lightest foundation is WAY too dark and too yellow for my skin tone.

I agree with Clair, the foundations are always to yellow for my skin. Great line though!

I also agree with Clair. I have yet to find any makeup that is as pale white as me, and I can never seem to tan.

    FINALLY!
I’m mixed (Sri-Lankan, Chinese, English) and have the worst time trying to find makeup that is tailored to skin tones similar to mine!

    I’m excited :)

This is great :) there are a lot of skin color issues surrounding Indian culture (as well as East Asian and Black cultures), and this line may aid women in embracing their naturally beautiful skin tone :)

I’m English but people tell me I look Italian or Greek – I’ve got a warm yellow skintone (So my sister tells me!), dark brown hair that goes slightly red in the sun and the ends go golden in summer, and I’ve got dark brown eyes – is this an olive skin tone?! Thanks :)

“which can also have similar issues with pigmentation” Why does that sound like having olive colored skin is a problem, an issue? Am I the only one who feels this?

This is AWESOME. I’m part Indian and having a makeup line actually made for my skin tone is going to be amazing. My poor bank account…

Yay! I’m Asian and also have a olive skin tone, so this is great news. My bank account, which is already drained from the holidays, will only suffer more, but I’m sure it’ll be worth it.

I’ll have to check this out! I’ve been using Vincent Longo and Sephora no longer carries it, so you have to order it direct online.

Got a MAC store at the mall so I’m very excited! Thanks for reporting this!

    @ anonymous/ Lisa

if you read the Stylelist link provided, it elaborates on “issues with skin pigmentation”.

Ah, lovely! Being mixed (black, irish, native american), I’m always looking for products to complement my skin tone :) very excited for this

I have an olive skin tone, and I agree that it’s difficult to find makeup that suits me well. This new line seems like a great idea, though i’m not sure if i’ll actually end up getting any of these products…maybe when i’m no longer a college student on a budget :)

Yay! Now see, this is finally good news! It’s so hard to find the right shade for my skin tone, I invariably end up using nothing but a faint bronzer just to add some sparkle.. I still haven’t found the perfect set of shade for my olive skin (I <3 it, it's a lovely tone, not even close to being a pigmentation issue! :D)…

    Super excited!

I wish there was a line exclusively for pale people. Most lines foundations are waaay too dark for me and too yellow. I did find that Origins Nude and Improved Foundation in Almost Angel matches very well. But I haven’t been able to find a concealer that is light enough for me, powder as well. I also have trouble finding a blush that matches as well. They’re usually too dark and make me look dirty.

This sounds awesome. I’m pretty pale so I won’t personally be using these products, but I think olive skin tones are gorgeous and I’m sure it’ll be great for these women to have new cosmetics tailored just to their beautiful complexions.

And @Clair, Nicole, and Katie: I have MAC concealer, tinted moisturizer, and mineral powder that all match my super pale skin perfectly. Have you tried talking to people at cosmetics counters or stores about finding products to match your skin tone? It worked for me :D

This is nice, but why is it limited edition? People are going to have olive skin forever, it should be a permanent addition. There should also be a line for darker (black) tones; if you’re not white, it’s next to impossible to get makeup from most mainstream retailers. Keeping this permanent and expanding the line to all races is going to do nothing but give MAC (or any line that expands) more money by expanding its client base, so making it a limited edition deal strikes me as pretty unfortunate, as if olive skin is a trend like frosted lipstick. :(

I heard on Temptalia that the foundations and concealers are permanent, but the color shades are L/E

I think it’s a great idea, there finally will be a collection for brown tone skin which I have! Living in Hawaii = tanned skin

@ the ‘pigmentation’ issue: I think they meant the pigmentation of the make up, not people’s skin. Eyeshadow often looks wahsed-out on my skin, it needs a lot more *pigmentation* to really stay opaque, as it looks in the package, on olive-toned skin. I think that’s what they meant.

As to the article- I must agree with all the FINALLY’s! Can’t wait for this, definitely finding a MAC store over here in Holland and getting some stuff. Foundation’s always been a horror story for me.

And yes, I completely agree with wanting this to be permanent. I completely agree with Syd.

I am so excited for this. I am biracial (black and white), and my skin has a yellow undertone. It’s nearly impossible to match my colouring. This is great.

Does this mean that there is foundation that won’t make my skin look gray?? Awesome!

Also, requesting an article on make-up tips on how not to look ashy when putting on make-up?:D

too bad this collection is only getting a limited release (the top 22 MAC stores), so order online if you see something you like! I’m sad that I won’t get the chance to check the foundations shades out myself – it would have been nice to see if the .5 ones match better than my current NC45, which tends to make me look ashy.

Finally! I’m a rather pale olive and have had a hell of a time trying to get normal foundations to match my skin tone. I will definitely be trying this out!

I’m really glad MAC has come out with this product line. It’s a great step towards diversifying make-up so it can adhere to every women’s beauty needs. Hopefully a make-up line for darker (black) skin tones is in the works right now and will be coming out soon.

@ liz: i have talked to people at cosmetics counters a couple times. even then it’s nearly impossible to find a foundation that’s a good match. even if a very pale shade of foundation is available, it is always too yellow. i’ve actually had the sales rep try to convince me to buy these foundations anyways because the yellow will “add color to your complexion.” i never do because the color is usually so off it makes me look sallow. i have pretty good skin so i can get away with not wearing foundation very often, but it’s still frustrating.
