Chanel couture, largely known for their classic navy blue suit sets with gold embellishments, has undergone a transformation for Spring 2010, thanks to designer Karl Lagerfeld.

While the garments mostly kept their signature shape, this season’s accessories and colors shook things up. Instead of a neutral palette of white, beige, or navy, the models pranced down the catwalk in pastel blues, peaches, greens, and yellows. Lagerfeld successfully incorporated these right-now colors into his classic cuts without veering into Easter egg-gone-wrong territory.

As for the accessories, Lagerfeld decked his models in silver trim. The models wore iridescent tights that made their legs glow, while silver metallic fingerless gloves and ankle booties (some with peep toes) polished the fantasy look. As for their hair, the models wore heart-shaped updos complete with blunt cut bangs and feminine bows. To keep with the feminine look, some of the models sported fluffy tulle-like material wrapped around their necks as necklaces, some of which included flowers.

Lagerfeld included lots of textures in Chanel’s spring couture line. From embellished overcoats to silky, flowy dresses, Lagerfeld spared no detail when creating this line.

The biggest surprise of all? Lagerfeld sent two models down the “aisle” dressed to exchange their wedding vows!

It’s beautiful. I am stunned again. Lagerfeld is like the most amazing designer that can ALWAYS surprise me. I love the old and new.

I think the new changes to chanel is more of a modern, young twist yet old is fun, flirty and classy. Both are just amazing and buying just a piece from chanel, it’ll last for life. I could go on and on because he’s just pure genius.

Karl Lagerfeld has a rich history of creating innovative, yet tasteful designs. He has an uncanny talent for rejuvenating classics, and presenting a fresh new interpretation that is classy and sure to turn heads. I dare say he single handedly turned around Chanel and Fendi!

I just don’t think this is the what comes to mind in thinking Chanel. Don’t get me wrong, it’s beautiful and I love it, but it just doesn’t say classic Chanel to me. I miss the classic look Chanel always presented.

This was a great take on Chanel with a subtle twist in color, but nothing was shocking or out of the ordinary, which is why Chanel continues to be a top luxury house. A bride ending the show is a tradition of couture shows and Baptiste Giabiconi is Lagerfelds favorite male muse right now so I wasn’t surprised to see him brought in at all. What always amazes me is the detail put into couture and that all of that sewing is done by hand, so all of those beading details blow my mind.

I understand what you mean Erika but that is the beauty of fashion, it is fluid and dynamic…never static. Classics resurface every few years with an updated twist. I am new to blogging but seasoned when it comes to knowing what fashions I feel are here to stay, and contribute to changing how people perceive their environment. I have a strong conviction in the belief that the most successful brands are those that stay true to their roots, while finding new ways to present their staples, Burberry comes to mind. Lagerfeld has done an amazing job as Lindsey just said to keep Chanel forever chic and luxurious.

I love Karl, he can do no wrong. And Chanel has always been one of my favorites brands. This collection is beautiful, but I kind of agree with Erika. If I were to look at it not knowing it was Chanel, I wouldn’t have even guessed. I do miss the classic styles but its a new decade and change is always a good thing.

I was so shocked to see no navy, black or gold in this collection because those colors are Chanel basically, you can relate them. But Karl Lagerfeld transformed it into something that neither of us were expecting, he knows it’s something he needs to do from time to time to keep people guessing and that shows what a genious he is. For me the collection is flawless and stunning. I really really love the pastels and silver theme. It’s beautiful.

Fresh and amazing. Is it me or are the models borrowing Lagerfeld’s gloves? I love the makeup- I wonder what lipstick they used.

I think Coco is rolling in her grave…the metallics were all wrong and the shapes were not flattering, but the colors were beautiful for Spring. I kind of enjoyed the silver hair on the models.

i agree with sarana. it thought i was loking more at zac posen then chanel. I think they made the models look all boxy and i didnt see any tribute to chanel’s orgininal vision of wearable fashion. definately a different outlook on the line.

The only thing that I love about this fashion show is the hair! I found it really cute… especially with the silver streaks! Lol.

Does anybody else want silver streaks in their hair now?! haha just one. Like Stacey has from the show “What not to Wear”. It’s cute if you can pull it off. I don’t think it would sit quite right with my natural brown hair colour I’ve got going on. :( unfortunate.
