Fashion Recap: 2014 Grammy Awards Red Carpet

Over the last few weeks, we’ve talked about the fashion at the Golden Globes and SAG Awards, and now we’re moving in a slightly different direction by covering last night’s Grammy Awards. The biggest names in music walked the red carpet, so of course, we have a bunch of amazing looks to discuss. Let’s get right to it:

Top 5 Best-Dressed

Here are my picks for best dressed at this year’s Grammy Awards, in no particular order:

Giuliana Rancic in Alex Perry

Giuliana Rancic stunned in a tangerine-hued dress by Australian designer Alex Perry. The lacy halter neck gown featured sheer netting around the bodice, as well as some contrasting white trim. The E! Red Carpet host topped off her look with some funky Marina B. jewels are a dark smokey eye.

Ciara in Custom Emilio Pucci

Ciara showed us just how cool maternity style can be in this custom Emlio Pucci gown. Featuring head-to-toe embellishments, this long sleeved gown is the epitome of glam. Since the dress was pretty ornate, Ciara opted to keep the rest of her look low-key with natural makeup and a soft tousled ‘do.

Beyoncé in Michael Costello

Beyoncé didn’t walk the red carpet last night, but she did make an appearance in the press room rocking this Michael Costello gown. The mermaid-style sheer dress featured a white lace overlay that exuded plenty of sex appeal. Her asymmetrical bob and red lip made this look extra fabulous.

Taylor Swift in Gucci Première

Taylor Swift loves her sparkly red carpet gowns, and she looked amazing in this short-sleeved number by Gucci Première. The metallic dress featured a chainmail-like overlay, which toughened up the glittery look. Taylor completed this ensemble with drop earrings and a no-frills ponytail.

Cyndi Lauper in Alexander McQueen

Cyndi Lauper proved her style icon status in this Alexander McQueen cape. This look fit her eccentric style perfectly, from the jeweled gold collar right down to the matching peep-toe pumps. On anyone else it might have been too garish, but Cyndi pulled this ensemble off flawlessly.

Other Notable Ensembles

Whether you loved them or loathed them, here are four more looks that created a buzz on last night’s red carpet:

Katy Perry in Valentino Couture

Katy Perry went whimsical in this fresh-off-the-runway couture gown by Valentino. This intricate tulle gown adorned with musical notes has a romantic yet fun vibe, which Katy paired with a lavish updo and chandelier earrings.

Madonna in Ralph Lauren

Madonna and her son David looked dapper in matching suits by Ralph Lauren at this year’s Grammys. Madonna added her own unique touches to this menswear-inspired look, including a fingerless glove, a cane, and a grill (yes, a grill). Just like Cyndi Lauper, Madonna has a style that’s all her own, and this ensemble proves it.

Ariana Grande in Dolce & Gabbana

Singer Ariana Grande donned an adorable ’50s style Dolce & Gabbana frock for last night’s ceremony. She paired the strapless floral print dress with pink pumps and her signature ponytail. Were you a fan of this retro black-and-pink look?

Paula Patton in Nicolas Jebran Haute Couture

Paula Patton went bold in a trendy zebra print gown by Nicolas Jebran. Aside from the wild print, the dress also featured two embroidered lion heads near the collarbone. Paula complemented the gown with an edgy updo and David Yurman jewels. Was this dress too over-the-top for your taste or do you admire her fashion risk?

Least Favorite Look

You know we can’t love everything we see on the red carpet. Here’s one look that I wasn’t a fan of at last night’s event.

Paris Hilton in Haus of Milani

Paris Hilton showed up at the Grammys in an embellished white gown by Haus of Milani that ended up being my least favorite look of the night. From the front, the combination of the high neckline and long sleeves looked conservative, but the back of the gown featured a sheer back along with plenty of sheer cutouts. Between the various textures and patterns, as well as the contrast between the front and back, I thought this dress had way too much going on.

Your thoughts?

Now that you know what we think, tell us your opinion. Did you watch the Grammys last night? Who wins your pick for best-dressed? Any looks you didn’t like? Be sure to leave a comment and let us know what you think!

I’m surprised at the least favorite look. I thought Paris looked AMAZING last night and I loved the conservative front which gave her a more elegant look, but when she turned around it was still very “Paris”

I agree with Colen. I thought Paris look great! Some other sites have criticized her look as well. I wonder if they would have felt the same way if the gown was on another woman. Even though Paris Hilton is probably best known for her scandals (and that’s why many people don’t like her), her past behaviors don’t influence my opinion of her style (or anyone else’s for that matter). She was definitely one of my best dressed.

S/N: I’m not implying that the author of this piece chose Paris’ gown as her least favorite because she personally dislikes Paris Hilton. I just find it interesting that some online bloggers have praised Beyonce’s look and panned Paris’ when both gowns have very similar elements (white, sheer, cutouts etc.).

I didn’t so much mind Paris’ look, but I’m getting tired of how safe Arianna Grande dresses every time she’s on a red carpet anywhere. She’s way too predictable to be considered ‘best dressed.’ Same goes for Taylor Swift. They’re both verging on boring at this point and that’s sad because they’re young and popular in the industry and can afford to make risky decisions when it comes to their clothing picks.

Really, so disappointed in you guys for picking Ariana Grande over Paris. Thought this was a fashion blog

Hi lill – Ariana Grande wasn’t one of my best dressed picks nor was she my worst dressed. I simply decided to mention her as a notable look, which means that she wore a dress that got mixed reviews. As for Paris, I knew I would get some backlash since many liked her look, but personally, I didn’t care for it.

I don’t expect everyone to agree with my picks 100% of the time, and that’s what I love about fashion – it’s all about personal preferences!

Ummm Paris looked amazing! Taylor looked great, but predictable. She’s always in a sparkly dress. I thought Beyonce was best dressed or one of, the rest of the ‘best dressed’ looks weren’t my favorites at all. I didn’t care for Ariana’s dress either. Eh. Everyone has an opinion.

I loved the fashion at the Grammy’s last night. I wasn’t a huge fan of Paula Patton’s look, but I loved Taylor Swift’s dress for once. I thought she looked stunning. Maybe unpopular opinion here, but I wasn’t a huge fan Ariana Grande’s dress. It was too poofy at the bottom.
My favorite look of the night was probably Taylor Swift’s performance attire, especially this picture. The way the dress was flowing down was stunning.

I loved Katy Perry Valentino dress! i kind of want to dance in it. its so whimsical.

i think Paris looked strange the orange skin, the up due, the dress was alright i didn’t like he turtleneck part but it might have been better if her hair was down or she was styled differently.

Paula’s dress was like the circle of life from the loin king when Mufasa tells Simba ha when they die they become he grass and the antelope eat the grass lol take out the antelope insert zebra hahaha. i don know how i feel about it.

Ariana did play it safe but its completely her style, its cute and lady like.

    and Madonna is Madonna.

i absoutlutly love Ciara’s glowing hair skin and dress combo. i wish i look that good pregnant shes working that dress.

Beyonces dress is amazing i like the white with the dark lip , it transitions winter into spring

Taylors glitter sparkle shimmer like always is beautiful.

i did really care for Juliana’s dress i like the bold color choice. the white lace and orange idk i might have to see the dress closer to like it sometimes photos dont capture the beauty of a gown everyone seems to love it.

Cyndi’s outfit didnt seem like an award show to me, but i do adore her cape.

The sheer trend is OK on Beyonce. My absolute favorite is Taylor Swift’s Gucci column. The shape is so understated but the sheer yolk is super sweet, and the elaborate sequins/metallic make such a statement. I want to wear it!!
