Ah, winter break! All semester long, I pine away for your unscheduled, unstressful, due date-free bliss. Now that you have arrived, what am I going to do with you?
If you have finished your semester and your winter break is a wide open space of time, you're in luck! I have come up with 5 important, or not-so-important, things to occupy your time over winter break, whether it be at home or elsewhere.
1. Double Feature
That's right! Pop some popcorn, whip up the hot chocolate, and find your most snuggle-riffic blanket and watch holiday movies all day! Here is a list of a few of my personal favorites:
- White Christmas
- It's a Wonderful Life
- A Christmas Story
- The Preacher's Wife (Oh, Whitney...)
- Jingle All the Way
There are so many more, but I wouldn't want to overwhelm you with my first-class collection of VHS tapes.
Or... if you want to get out of the house, plan a day with your friends or family and head to the movies. When you get there, pick out 2, yes 2, movies that you want to see! Maybe one in the morning, break for lunch, and then come back for an afternoon flick. It will be a fairly lazy day, but sometimes it is more fun to go to the movies than watch them on TV all day at home.
2. Closet Purge
Clean your closet out for the next season. If you have not worn a piece in the last year and do not see yourself wearing it, toss it. It may be difficult to part with some of your closet treasures, but it will be much easier to put together outfits when you can actually see everything in your closet without pushing things around.
Remember that really cool project you pinned while you were avoiding writing that paper? Well, why don't you actually do it? I plan to make this script scarf using a fabric marker. It looks easy enough and I could always use a new scarf to put in the mix! Plus, it would be a fun and unique gift for a few of my friends!
4. Plan for Spring Break & Summer Vacation
I always get really eager for summer break by the end of my winter break. Maybe it's because by then my legs haven't seen the light of day since November, but I tend to yearn for warm days by the pool that involve orange popsicles and snowballs early on. So dream about where you want to go, what concerts you want to attend, and events you want to go to. Who knows, it might make you feel a little warmer in these cold months!
5. Prepare for Next Semester
The week before school starts, go ahead and go to the bookstore and get all of your books. Head to the store and get all of your school supplies, too. If you get all of this taken care of early, you can actually enjoy your last few days of freedom instead of spending it at the tire shop and orthodontist. I speak from experience when I say, do it early!
What things do you do over winter break to stay busy? What holiday movies do you like to watch? Let us know in the comments!
