I believe people love subscription services for two reasons.

1. People genuinely enjoy treating themselves on a monthly basis.

2. People love surprises.

These two factors combined have created an almost insatiable appetite for subscription boxes from consumers everywhere. Originally, subscription boxes that focused on conventional beauty products ruled the scene. Beauty boxes like Birchbox, Ipsy, and Glossybox have been continuously slaying the market for years. However, unconventional and inventive services are slowly taking over.

Nowadays, there’s a box for everybody and everything, making them the perfect gift for a hard-shop-for friend or even yourself.

Down below I’ve highlighted four amazing niche subscription boxes that you should definitely have on your radar.

Memebox ($20-$50)

Memebox is a relatively new beauty box that’s focused on bringing the latest in Korean beauty trends and products to your mailbox. Curated boxes with names like the trendy “Shara Shara Box” and the vibrant “Spooktacular Color Box” provide an affordable way to sample the coolest new products from Korea.

Memebox recently has become a favorite of Nylon Magazine, who recently did a collaboration with them, featuring an eyeshadow palette and a makeup/skincare box to celebrate their 16 anniversary. While Memebox isn’t technically a subscription service—you’re only committing to a one time transaction—they do offer an interesting take on “standard” beauty boxes.

NatureBox ($19.95)

NatureBox is a subscription service based on the premise that everyone loves to snack. They promise to deliver vegan, non-GMO snacks that are also free of artificial sweeteners, flavors, or colors.

You get to choose the number of snacks you receive (3 or 5) and the delivery frequency (weekly, biweekly, or monthly). With options like White Cheddar Jalapeno Popcorn, Sweet Blueberry Almonds, and Dark Cocoa Nom Nom, there’s a perfect snack for everybody. Plus, if you receive a snack you don’t like, you can email the customer service and they’ll replace it in your next box.

Essence Beauty Box ($15)

This box, curated by the trusted beauty experts at ESSENCE Magazine, is changing the game by becoming one of the few beauty subscription services catering exclusively to women of color. Also, in every box they highlight a product from a Black-owned business. The box launched in October featuring products from Tarte, Calvin Klein, and L’Occitane.

Stunner of the Month ($9.95)

Stunner of the Month hearkens back to ye olden days of “____ of the Month Club”. However, this curated library of sunglasses is adding a bit of edgy, vintage flare to modern day subscription boxes.

When you sign up for this, every month you’re sent a pair of fly shades based on gender preference and desired flare. Additionally, you get access to a monthly playlist that corresponds to your sunglasses and you might even receive an extra gift every once in a while.
