While I was studying abroad this summer in Spain, clogs were in all of my favorite stores. Tons of cute, fashionable girls were rocking them with their outfits– and they looked great! The more I saw them, the more I liked them. Feeling inspired, I purchased my own pair of tan clogs before I returned home to Minnesota.

While I love living in Minnesota, it isn’t exactly the style capital of the world, and clogs are considered pretty fashion-forward here! So because of this, at first I felt a bit awkward wearing my new shoes at home. Fortunately, I soon developed a system that worked for me, and let me wear my clogs casually.

Tips for Wearing Clogs

• Get inspired. Feeling unsure about clogs and how to wear them? Try checking out pictures of celebrities and other girls trying the trend. Weheartit.com and Chictopia are great places to find images. Also, check out features and articles on clogs: Kim’s Would You Wear…Clogs? and Audrey’s Fashion Challenge: Clogs both discuss the trend, as do these pieces from Who What Wear, Style Bakery, and Blue is in Fashion This Year. They just might inspire you to pick up a pair of your own!
• Choose a heel. The main clog heel options are flat, chunky, or wedge-heeled. If you want height but aren’t into the classic, chunky bottom that most clogs provide, clog wedges provide a different, often more wearable look. They’re also easier to walk in than traditional clogs!
• Keep it classic. Whenever you’re sporting a trendy or over-the-top item, it’s a good idea to keep the rest of your look classic and simple. This way, not only will your statement piece (in this case, the clogs) stand out, but you’ll also avoid looking trend-obsessed and silly.
• Try wooden-heeled shoes. This fall we’re going to be seeing shoes featuring signature clog details: wooden platform heels and visible studs. So, if you’re into that look but dislike the shape or feel of traditional clogs, you’re in luck! Expect to see clog-inspired sandals, boots, and even shoes this season!

I don’t know about you, but I’m more than excited for September – fall weather means I can rock my favorite scarves, sweaters, and hats from last year and arrive at class without looking and feeling like a sweaty mess! But with temperature changes come wardrobe adjustments, and sometimes transitioning between seasons can be tough. This week’s challenge may help you fill in those awkward weeks between summer and fall.

Tips and Tricks for Pairing a Dress with Pants

• It’s all about proportions. I think this trend looks best with a short dress that hits around your mid thigh. Some girls can pull off the look rocked by Jessica Alba in the picture above, but it will overwhelm most frames.
• Simple, fitted dresses work best. A dress with a really full bottom half or lots of material and draping may not be the most flattering choice.
• Pair a dress with jeans. Skinny jeans or jeggings will no doubt look great with most dresses, but a pair of boot cut jeans or even flares can work, too! Flared jeans look best when paired with a dress that is more fitted around its hemline.
• Try it with other pants, too. Linen pants, clam diggers, capris, even yoga pants can look neat when styled the right way!
• Did your favorite dress shrink? Or did you get a late growth spurt? If you have a dress that’s just a little bit too short to wear comfortably, wear it with a pair of jeans instead of leggings for a fierce look.

Finish with gladiator sandals, a nautical-inspired bracelet, and a pendant necklace.

So, I know this look may be a little “out there” for many of you, but hear me out–when it comes to studying or watching tv, nothing is cozier than a t-shirt and pajama pants, right? For an updated take on the loungewear uniform, swap out pajama pants for yoga pants, and pair them with this racerback dress. The dress will be fitted throughout the butt and thighs, balancing out the fullness of the yoga pants, but not so tight that it’s restraining.

Finally, throw on a pair of sneakers and a cute bracelet, and keep your hair out of your face with a couple headbands. This look is perfect for lounging in your dorm room, studying in the library, or running errands.

One of my favorite ways to accessorize an outfit is to add an eye-catching necklace. Lately, I’ve been obsessing over these amazing necklaces from J.Crew, but with their $100+ price tag, they are definitely out of my price range.

To save money, I decided to make my own necklace and now I’m going to take you through the 3 easy steps so you can make your own statement necklace, as well! And, as a bonus if you have some extra links, you can use them to make a bracelet.

What You Need:

• Chains – I chose 6 different chains, but you can use as many as you like. You can get these at craft stores – they usually have a wide variety to choose from, or just use old chain necklaces you no longer want.
• Pliers
• A clasp – once again, you can get this at a craft store or use one from an old necklace – just disconnect it using the pliers.
• A few jump rings – available at craft stores as well.

Step 1:

Take a few of the chains and use the pliers to open the jump ring. Then attach the chains to the jump ring and slide the jump ring through the hole on the bottom of the clasp, and close the jump ring. (Note: If the chains are longer than you want, you can use the pliers to open up one of the links and shorten the chains.)

Step 2:

Take the other chains and attach them to another jump ring, and then attach the jump ring to the other ring with the chains.

Step 3:

Now that all the chains are attached, you can start braiding and weaving the chains to create a chunky look. When you get to the end, open a jump ring and slide all the chains onto it. You can add a few more jump rings to the end to adjust the length of your necklace.

The Finished Product:

Here’s how my necklace turned out, and I absolutely love it! I’ve already worn it so much, with everything from a basic white tank to a fancy black dress – this necklace is so versatile. Because I had some extra links I decided to make a bracelet, as well:

To make the bracelet, just follow the same steps for the necklace, and voila! You now have a very trendy necklace and bracelet to spice up any outfit!

The last few fashion challenges have been all about unexpected contrast–mixing bright colors, incorporating guy’s clothing into your wardrobe, and mixing two different styles together. This week’s challenge takes the opposite approach!

When worn with style, a monochromatic outfit, i.e. an outfit comprised of only one color can be both unexpected and fashion-forward. It might seem tough to pull off, but I promise it’s easier than it looks! If nothing else, rocking a single shade will make you look at your wardrobe with fresh eyes and help you see new clothing combinations that you never would have thought of otherwise. So pick your favorite color and let’s get going!

Tips and Tricks for Rocking a Monochromatic Outfit

• Look for contrast within the same hue. Mix navy and sky blue, army and lime green, or goldenrod and light yellow to get the monochromatic look without resembling a crayon!
• Stay away from neutrals. Rocking an outfit made entirely of black, white, or another neutral is hardly a challenge! Push your style boundaries and try something daring.
• Create contrast with textures. Mix satin with sequins or cotton with suede to add interest.
• Stay away from pairing shades that are too similar. If the colors of your top and bottom are just a little bit off from each other, it will look like your outfit is accidentally clashing rather than intentionally monochromatic.
• Try it with denim. If you want a more tame way to rock this challenge, try wearing a blue top, blue shoes, and blue accessories with your favorite pair of jeans.
• As always, wear with confidence! Because, after all, your attitude and aura can make or break any outfit. :)

On Tuesday, August 24th, I boarded a mid-afternoon flight bound for Beijing, China. I bid farewell to my loved ones, departed from these great United States, and prepared for a 4 month adventure. My exit was bittersweet, but alas, I will return!

However, I did not leave for China empty-handed. I brought an open mind, the swagger of a college kid, and a boatload of clothing. Yes, I found packing light for study abroad challenging. After all, how do you maintain your personal style with limited space AND without sacrificing functionality? To be honest, I have yet to find the answer to this question. But, I have come to a couple of conclusions. Packing for study abroad is about creating options, making the most out of what little you have, and preparing for unexpected situations.

Adventure on a Budget: Becoming the Jacques Cousteau of Your Closet

About a month back, I read an interesting article in the New York Times about Six Items or Less, an experiment in budget fashion. For the month of June, people across the world pledged to wear only six items of clothing for 30 days! Though duplicates of the items were allowed for laundry purposes, the task seemed near impossible.

Over the past few weeks, though, I have tried to piece together how I could incorporate the Six Items or Less challenge into my abroad experience. Because of weather conditions and work obligations, there was no way that I could go 4 months with only 6 items of clothing. But, I realized that I could make a lot of outfits with a few classic items.

So, below, I’ve detailed my attempt at budget fashion: Three core items, three outfits, three unique situations. Pass these tips along and the guy you love will be packing light everywhere he goes.

The Core Items

Products: Sweater – Old Navy, Shirt – J.Crew, Jeans – Levis

I love simple clothing. Manufactured wear and tear, shiny buttons, and big name teen brands have never caught my attention. Basically, I feel like your shirt should never precede you; your actions should define you. With that in mind, I tried to pack classic, conservative clothes for abroad. After all, there is no need to be running around Beijing with a humor tee on.

The best weapons in a man’s arsenal are his tried-and-true favorites. For me, nothing says “comfort” like a pair of jeans, a button front shirt, and a cotton sweater. Aside from their comfort, these items are great because they complement each other AND work well as individual pieces. Given almost any situation, spare a wedding reception or job interview, you can get away with wearing a combination of these items.

Look 1: Back to School

Dressing for the first day of school is stressful, but factor in a foreign country and you’ve got yourself some trouble. So my first tip is simple: be prepared for anything.

The outfit above doesn’t take much planning or thought, but it does work well in many situations. Because of the sweater there is an air of formality, however the plaid pattern of the button front shirt balances this formality out. The sneakers also make the outfit less formal. More importantly, though, they serve a practical purpose: Comfortable shoes are a must while traveling abroad, and Air Max 90′s are built for sustained walking.

Thus, though the outfit looks simple, it is complex in application. While it serves as a perfect first day of class outfit, it is also well-suited for going out or just exploring while abroad.

Look 2: Singing in the Rain

Products: Boots – L.L. Bean, Rain Jacket – The North Face, Belt – Old Navy

It’s a fact of nature: During your tenure abroad, it is going to rain. So while you are packing, you should keep this in mind: weather is inevitable, but poor planning is your own fault.

Though I hate the rain, I do love boots. I am not sure why (chalk it up to the rugged appeal they give you) but when given the opportunity, I throw on my all weather boots without hesitation. So, when I purchased a pair of Bean boots last week, I was pumped. Having worn them around these past couple of days, I can honestly say they were worth the money: They’re very comfortable, keep the water out great, and are also pretty lightweight. All around, I highly recommend them.

But what good are rain boots without a solid rain jacket? When it comes to the all-important rain coat, I suggest going for something light and easily rolled into a backpack. Also, go muted in terms of color. Your rain jacket should go with everything you own, because clouds don’t care what your outfit looks like.

Look 3: Night Out

Though my mother probably wouldn’t be happy to hear this, one of the things I’m most excited to do while abroad is go out. I am a pretty social guy, and the prospect of mingling in a foreign country is already getting my blood flowing. But, I am also aware that I won’t have the comfort of my closet when I am getting ready to hit the town in Beijing. So, I decided to bring one or two key semi-formal pieces of clothing to spice up my casual wear. The tip here is straightforward: pack a jacket, but don’t pack a suit.

Unless you are going abroad strictly for business, you probably don’t need to fatten your suitcase with stuffy office wear. If you plan on wearing a jacket when you go out, pack one that is a little unique and off the beaten path. Above, I picked out a brown corduroy blazer. I still haven’t decided if I love corduroy, but I do like the idea of using it as a fabric between dressy and sloppy.

As far as shoes are concerned, (and unless you’re Kanye West), you don’t want to go out somewhere nice in a pair of sneakers. Ever. When you are abroad, you are already going to stick out, but don’t perpetuate stereotypes by being the bro king of the bar, running around in his Nike’s. Go for something classically designed like the Saddle shoe. It looks awesome with jeans and is making a huge comeback internationally as a trendy piece of menswear.

P.S. A tie is always optional.

Move-In Day

Deciding what to wear when you move back in to school can be tough–it’s your chance to make a first impression for the school year, so you want to look great, but you also need to be comfortable enough to lug heavy suitcases. All that lifting may also make you sweaty and disheveled, factors to consider when doing your hair and makeup.

I recently saw a friend wearing this army-style, slightly cropped shirt and thought it was such a fun piece for a casual day. Paired with dark denim shorts, it’s a great twist on the trendy military style that will also be ultra comfortable and airy. I love these sandals as well; besides looking great, they will stay on securely even if you are running up and down stairs.

This chain-link bracelet is the perfect accessory, as the detailing continues the look’s tough girl vibe, while the pearls add a feminine touch. For hair, I similarly went for a style that will add some girlish glamour, choosing a sweet, simple pulled-back hairstyle that will look even better as it gets slightly mussed from unpacking.

Finally, be sure to carry a sturdy purse for move-in day and keep it on you at all times; this will ensure you keep your new keys, ID, documents, and other dorm essentials safe!

First Day of Classes

For the first day of classes, go for a look that shows you are focused but also fashionable! First, since purple is one of the hottest colors for fall, go for a vibrant dress in a purplish/indigo hue. Top that off with a smart boyfriend blazer for a classic look, and then toss on a mixed chain necklace for an updated twist on a classic.

One of the fall fashion statements I’m most excited about is over-the-knee socks worn with dresses, so I figured since the first day of school signifies the start of fall, it was an ideal time to try it! I went for ribbed gray socks, paired with nude wedges, as the gray-ish, floral-adorned bow on the shoes ties in perfectly with the socks. This look is a great way to bring summer favorites (like a tank dress and open-toe wedges) into the fall!

For beauty, go with whatever hair and makeup you are most comfortable in so you can feel completely confident and unconcerned during class. I do suggest using an eye-brightener before your makeup, though, since waking up early for the first day of classes may leave you with puffy, tired eyes!

First Night Out

There’s nothing as exciting as your first night out with your new roomies and all of the college friends you haven’t seen in months! So I wanted to create a look that would be effortlessly cool and allow you to fit in anywhere from a frat party to a bar (if you’re legal!), to your much-missed late night pizza place.

I love how fun this bright top is–it will definitely make you the center of attention wherever you go. I paired it with dark, skinny jeans (to balance out the loose top) and some killer wooden heels. The contrast of orange and turquoise is amazing and unexpected, so go for a large cocktail ring adorned with turquoise stones.

If you spent your summer locked up in an internship rather than lying on the beach (as many of us college students unfortunately did), fake your tan with a sunless glow–start doing this before you even go back to school to develop a gradual, natural color. Highlight your faux-glow with a shimmery, nude smokey eye in bronze tones.

Retro-inspired hair is huge for fall, so ditch your beachy waves for more tailored curls. I’m currently lusting after the Conair Infiniti curling iron, as its clampless design makes creating perfect curls seem so much easier!

• Look for contrast. Courtney Love did it in the ’90s by pairing lacy slip dresses with tough biker boots and leather jackets. Go for extremes; try wearing a geeky graphic tee with a floral skirt and heels, or a pair of thick-framed non-prescription glasses with a polished polo.
• Experiment with price ranges. “High-Low” fashion, turned into an art form by style bloggers and celebs alike, is both wildly popular and essential for girls on a budget. There’s something very “street-chic” about pairing a designer dress you saved for months to buy with a pair of cloth mary-janes purchased in Chinatown.
• Mix it up by occasion. Rock a glittery pair of stilettos with a basic t-shirt, or a fancy dress with a more casual pair of shoes if you’re feeling daring!
• Wear with confidence. You may run into individuals who don’t yet understand the idea of fashion freedom. If you receive any irritated stares from disgruntled individuals for pairing a punky studded belt with a pair of rope sandals, know that you look great because you’re doing something different.
• Remember, it’s a CHALLENGE! If you feel a bit out of your comfort zone, pat yourself on the back for daring to try something new and broadening your wardrobe horizons! :)

1. Good Girl Gone Bad

Rocker-chic accessories can give a girly dress a real kick! Start with a feminine frock–I like this one for its muted tone and bow decoration! Slick your hair back with a frilly headband to continue with the girly look. Next, to mix in some edge, throw on a pair of tough-gal stilettos and a studded cuff for an outfit that would make Leighton Meester proud!

2. Bohemian Prep-sody

Usually pair your polo shirts with freshly-ironed khakis? Break the mold and rock a proper polo with a pair of ripped-up jeans–skinny or boyfriend cuts look great, but stick with flared jeans for the most “boho-chic” look. A D-ring ribbon belt will contrast nicely with a pair of rope sandals, as will a pair of pearl studs with a woven bracelet.

3. You Say Goodbye, I Say “High-Low”

If you’re like me, you’re probably put off when people pitch “high-low” fashion as a novel idea–after all, pairing a basic t-shirt with your designer jeans is a no-brainer! However, you would be surprised to know how many people actually don’t think its okay to pair their expensive watch or purse with a regular casual outfit.

This idea, obviously, is silly–if you have a piece you’re proud of, you should feel free to wear it with anything! Not only will your item’s “cost per wear” decrease, but it’ll add style to otherwise-bland outfits.

To mimic Corey Kennedy’s high-low look, start with a white v-neck and jean shorts, which are a little more practical than her overalls. Next, add some cloth mary-janes: I found my favorite pair at Urban Outfitters! Next, use this neutral base as a canvas for standout accessories, like a great pair of sunglasses and a classic watch. I love this timepiece by Michael Kors–menswear-inspired watches are very on-trend at the moment! Most of us won’t be able to afford a Chanel purse like Corey’s for many, many years, so swap it out for your favorite leather bag!

With summer coming to an end and fall semester quickly approaching, most of us have just a few weeks left to try one of the hottest summer trend: crop tops! With scorching August temperatures still going strong, now is the perfect time to show a little extra skin.

I know many of you think crop tops are hard to wear, but I’m here to prove you wrong: They can be versatile AND flattering when styled correctly. Read on for my tips for wearing crop tops, as well as some sample outfits to get your inspiration going!

Tips for Wearing Crop Tops

• Pick a length. Crop tops come in a variety of shapes and lengths, and depending on how daring you are, you can pick a top that shows only a sliver of your stomach or one that bares your belly. Daring? Try a top that hits above your belly button (as seen above). More conservative? Opt for something that grazes the top of your jeans. When picking the length of your top, you should also consider what you’ll be wearing it with, and where you’re going!
• Pick and choose the rest of your look wisely. Crop tops are cute, but they can either look amazing or awful, depending on the outfit you wear them with. Each piece you pair with your top will evoke a different look. A higher waisted bottom paired with a crop top, for example, will limit the amount of skin you’re showing and can actually look sophisticated and fashion-forward.
• Add a tank. Not into showing your tummy in a tiny top? Don’t! You can still get that crop-top vibe by wearing one with a tank underneath. You can match your tank to your crop top, try a neutral, go for a color contrast, or just wear a nude tank underneath for the illusion of skin.
• Keep it classy. This is a perfect end-of-summer trend to try since, after all, crop tops really aren’t appropriate for work or class, and they’re a bit odd and out of place for a trip to the grocery store! They’re perfect, however, for the gym, the pool, and music festivals. Style your crop top right, and you can even wear it to a party or on a date. Just keep a fun, casual vibe in mind and consider your venue and you’ll be good to go.
• Try it out! Still afraid to incorporate crop tops into your summer wardrobe? Try wearing one on the beach over your bathing suit! It’s an effortless, but totally tend-conscious choice that will have people talking! Still not convinced? Layer, layer, layer! You can spice up a long-sleeved tee or a tight dress by wearing a cropped top over it as a layering piece.

This outfit is a perfect example of a classy way to wear a crop top–without ever showing skin (note the nude tank on the right)! Tuck a crop top into a high-waisted bandage skirt for a classic look with minimal bumps and bunchiness, or leave it untucked and play up the rock star edge. Added bonus: this crop top can be worn open like a vest! It’d be adorable with jeans and a tank in a contrasting color.

3. Effortless and Easygoing

In my preparations to go abroad, I have been trying to think of situations more stressful than packing for a four month stay in a foreign country. Admittedly, I haven’t written much down. Sure, meeting your freshman roommate is nerve racking. And, there is no feeling worse than realizing the iPhone you just bought is already out-of-date. But, for most guys, nothing comes close to the stress of journeying into the depths of a closet.

Except, of course, for one monumental situation that every human of the male genus dreads from the moment he hits puberty: meeting his significant other’s parents and/or family.

Stress City. Population: Your Parents

My girlfriend’s parents are sweet, down-to-earth people. They always make me feel welcome in their home and, subsequently, we get along well. But, even though there is a nice level of comfort between us, I always make the effort to look presentable before I walk into their house. For me, it is a matter of respect: I dress tastefully because I want them to want me to date their daughter. I want them to approve of me.

Now, I am not saying that every guy should show up to his significant other’s house in a three-piece suit (even though that would be kind of funny). What I am saying is that meeting your significant other’s parents, or just spending time with them in general, is a chance to dress to impress. And to truly impress them, it is pivotal that you capture the essence of your style and transform it into something that is both fashionable and tasteful.

The main point of today’s article is that you don’t have to sacrifice your individuality to impress you girlfriend or boyfriend’s parents. It’s easy to look tasteful and still look like yourself. So, pass these tips along and help a brotha out. Trust me, no matter how much we deny it, we are terrified to meet the parents.

Look 1: Grab and Go

As a participant in American dorm life, I realize that picking up your significant other from their parent’s house is not always standard procedure. In fact, most people try to avoid it… But, that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t be prepared, just in case.

Personally, I find picking out an outfit for the “grab and go” situation especially challenging. You want to be put-together, but you don’t want to look like you’re trying. And, to make things more difficult, you need to look good for your date. Therefore, you need to strive for a healthy balance of class and style.

Fortunately, it is not hard to find this balance. You just have to KISS, or Keep It Simple, Silly.

I know what you are thinking…“Didn’t my eighth grade English teacher tell me this?” Yeah, probably, but it doesn’t matter: KISS is an acronym that is applicable to just about anything life throws at you, especially fashion dilemmas.

In the outfit above, there aren’t many bells and whistles. No collars. No ties. Nothing to suggest that you are trying too hard. But, the subtleties of the outfit evoke an air of refinement. Simple, classic jeans suggest an acquaintance with the traditional; they lack manufactured wear, artificial fading, or jewels on the back pockets. Those amenities attract negative attention. The basic, non-v-neck sweater is slightly more than casual, but, because of its trimmer fit, still fashionable.

The gray suede bucks, however, are the center of the outfit. Your shoes say a lot about you, and when you replace sneakers with a more formal shoe, you exude sophistication. The shoes I chose aren’t dress shoes, though. No tassels, no polished leather, nothing that your dad would wear to the office. They are classy, but not over-the-top.

After all, when you enter the thunder dome that is your significant other’s home, “classy, but not over-the-top” is exactly what you want to shoot for in your outfit. Show that you are serious, but let them know that you are human. Most importantly, remember that your clothes don’t define you, they accentuate your features.

Look 2: Napkins, and Menus, and Waiters! Oh My!

So you made it past the first meeting – congrats! Now it’s time for the fun part!

The family dinner is an important event in any relationship. You and your significant other may dread it, but you both know it is going to happen. So, go into it with a level head and remember this tip: Make sure your clothes fit, in the literal and figurative sense.

Let’s face it: most parents want to know EVERYTHING about the guy their child is dating. Thus, when the family dinner rolls around, a boyfriend becomes a prisoner of war facing stringent interrogation. So, for this event, choose comfort over fashion. Wear clothes that you could spend three hours sitting in, because you probably will.

However, although comfort is important, your clothes should also fit the setting. Though I would normally suggest a v-neck underneath the shirt above, at the dinner table there is no reason to show unnecessary chest. Rock a crew neck, and you’ll be golden. Also, it’s important to choose colors that fit the setting. The light gray/dark blue combination above isn’t very “edgy,” but you are not trying to be “edgy” or “trendy.” You are trying to look like an adult.

Finally, you should address the formality of the setting, but not go overboard. A cardigan replaces a blazer perfectly at the dinner table (and if the restaurant or the guests (grandparents etc.) call for it, a cardigan can definitely be worn with a tie). I admit, I have never worn penny loafers, but a friend of mine swears by them, and I can see why: A well-polished, deep brown loafer catches eyes. Loafers imply that you work hard with their classic collegiate quality, but when worn without socks, they can be playful.

Look 3: Where the Party At?

So, you aced the grab and go and survived dinner… Now what? Dinner party, you say? Or was that a Christmas party? Frankly, it doesn’t matter. Formal wear is simple to execute if you are well-informed. And lucky for you all, it is my favorite segment of men’s fashion.

Here is my best tip when it comes to formal wear: there is no such thing as being overdressed. The beauty of men’s formal wear is that it is all about layering. Therefore, if you enter a party and find your self overdressed, start stripping. Take your jacket off, lose the tie, unbutton one or two from your collar, and boom – you just went from formal to semi-formal.

So, the next time you are going to a formal event with your significant other’s family, pick up a navy jacket (it is really the only blazer you need to own), rock a pair of khakis, and make sure to tie your own tie. You will get compliments on your outfit the entire night.

T-Shirts

Ahh, the classic boyfriend tee. The great thing about men’s t-shirts is that often they are cut straighter and longer than many girl’s styles, making them perfect to pair with your favorite skinny jeans. The more cozy and worn in, the better!

Outerwear

Nothing is as effortlessly chic as wearing a top from a boy’s closet. Be on the lookout for a blazer, cardigan, knit sweater, or dress shirt. Don’t worry if it’s a little big! Be sure to pair a boy’s top with a skirt, dress, or tighter cut jeans, and wear it with confidence!

Accessories

Your BGF’s (best guy friend) or little brother’s closet is the perfect place to find accessories to give your outfit edge. Personally, I love men’s watches, belts, and sunglasses. Be on the lookout for hats, too; I snagged my favorite beanie from my BGF. It was a little too big for my head, so I pinned the back so it’s perfectly slouchy, similar to the beanies often rocked by fashion blogger Rumi Neely of FashionToast.

Grooming Products

Sometimes, the only thing that will soothe an irritated face or tame flyaway hair can be found in a boy’s bathroom! No shaving cream is thicker than those made for men, and those tiny scissors your dad uses to tame unruly hair can make perfect eyebrow trimmers. Boy’s cologne is fun to experiment with as well–Adidas Moves for Men is my personal favorite, it smells perfectly grapefruity with hints of black pepper.

Lucky Extras

If you’re really lucky, a boy in your life will be around the same size as you. Make the most of this situation by borrowing a pair of jeans, a worn out polo, a pair of shoes, or a pair of shorts for the extremely adventurous look.  A boy’s polo is my favorite–is it just me, or does it seem like a lot of girl’s polos are cut too short and wide? Pair it with a broken-in pair of jeans and your favorite boots for a look reminiscent of Serena in the Gossip Girl books (TV show Serena’s style is a little different than the original).
