I Tried It… L’Oreal Lash Boosting Serum

Loreal Lash Boosting Serum Advertisement

It’s no secret that I’m absolutely obsessed with mascara. It was the first beauty product I ever bought, and I now own over a dozen tubes that I use in frequent rotation. However, I’ve been cursed with a particularly short set of lashes—the kind that are virtually invisible without mascara and that don’t look much lusher with the product on.

So as soon as I saw the TV advertisement for L’Oreal’s Lash Boosting Serum, which promises thicker, longer eyelashes with daily use, I knew I had to try it. I purchased the product on March 17th and, after waiting a full 10 weeks, I am happy to finally give you my results. Read on for my full review of L’Oreal Lash Boosting Serum!

The Product:

L'Oreal Lash Boosting Serum
L’Oreal Lash Boosting Serum- $14.95 at Drugstore.com

The Packaging:

lash boosting serum packaging

The serum comes in a small tube, filled with clear product. I know what you’re thinking: it looks like a tiny amount. But appearances can be deceiving; I seriously doubted that that the tube would last me the full ten weeks, but as of the end of May, I still have at least 1/3rd of the product left in the vial. The consistency is like clear mascara, and you can easily swipe some of the product on and run out the door to do whatever you need- it’s basically invisible.

The Process:

Long eyelashes
credit

To stimulate lash growth, you’re going to need to apply the product once a day to your lash line (like eyeliner) and to your actual lashes (like mascara). Of course, being the overzealous person that I am, I applied it twice a day, but I doubt it did anything to accelerate the results.

Putting it on is easy enough as I’ve used mascara and eyeliner almost daily for six years, but the product stung a bit when I got it in my eye. I learned by my third week or so that the most important part to get was the base of your lashes- don’t waste too much product on the tips of your lashes.

Of course, it can be easy to forget to put the serum on if you don’t make it part of your routine, so try to keep it in your line of sight so you remember! Overall, this is a very simple product to use—as long as you don’t forget!

My Results:

Honestly, I had no expectations with this product and fully intended to throw it out after five or six weeks; I just did not think it would work.

I. Was. Wrong.

Although nothing happened in the first two weeks, once weeks three and four hit, I started noticing baby lashes growing at the base. Now, they weren’t long, but they already felt thicker and looked darker than my regular lashes. By weeks five and six, my lashes were still below-average in length, but had grown by at least 25%- I could feel the difference when I touched them and one of my straight guy friends even noticed they were longer!

When weeks seven and eight came around, my lashes were average length sans mascara, and looked long with mascara on. To all of you guys with naturally long lashes, this might not seem like much, but to me, it was a big deal.

Now, after ten weeks, I can say that my lash length dramatically improved- I estimate my lashes increased by 50% in length and now look much fuller and thicker, results that completely exceeded my expectations.

My Overall Review:

If you have short eyelashes, you need to run to CVS/Walgreens/Target to buy this serum ASAP! It’s the best $14.99 you’ll spend on beauty products this year. I’d easily rate this product a 9/10, as it gave me results beyond what I ever expected.  Okay, it’s no Latisse, but my lashes are much longer and bolder now and I have to use much less mascara than I ever did— double-win for me!

BTW- I tried taking pictures, guys! My lashes are evidently too fair to appear mascara-less in pictures, so you’ll just have to take my word for it- this works!

What do you guys think?

Would you try L’Oreal’s Lash Boosting Serum? Have you tried it? What about similar products? Tell me everything and more in the comments!

EDIT:

Many of you guys asked about eye-color changing. I went to L’Oreal’s website and this is what I found:

The Lash Boosting Serum and Double Extend with Lash Boosting Serum Mascara are cosmetic products which contain conditioning properties for the eye lashes. These products do not contain ingredients which will change eye color.

So, there you have it: this stuff won’t change your eye color like Lattise, for example! Hope that helps clear things up!

Wow, even though I have naturally long eyelashes, your post was interesting…who would have thought that the stuff would actually work!

I’m so glad this worked for you. I purchased this product myself a couple months back. I have to say, I should be using it more religiously, every night before bed as instructed. It’s been more of a day to day lash base coat for me, more than anything else, but I think my lashes are longer? Hopefully I can work it into my beauty regime more diligently, as my mother refuses to let me use Latisse.

Thanks for the review! I’m going to go purchase this and cross my fingers.

Hopefully it will work on Asian lashes (as they are little to non-existent).

    I can’t believe it actually worked :O
“i’ve been cursed with a particularly short set of lashes” –> i could write a book about it. I’ll try it :)

I’m going to buy this the next time I go to CVS. When I take exams, I have a nervous habit of ripping out my eyelashes, so now that finals are over, my eyelashes are very thin. I hope it works!

    Daniela-

As per FTC rules, bloggers now have to disclose product information, basically how we got the product. In the first section, I wrote that I bought the product- at Walmart, as a matter of fact, using my own money. No one has ever sent me anything to review. Furthermore, I have never been compensated for any review I’ve ever done, including this one. If you read any more of my reviews you’ll see that I’m not shy when about letting CF readers know when a product doesn’t deliver. This one does and I was really surprised, which is why I’m so enthusiastic about it.

    Sorry about the sarcastic comment.

If it really works, great, I just doubt it very much. I wonder if they promise you your money back if it doesn’t. If they do, I will try it.

I think pictures of before and after may be better than just saying it worked…I mean, I find it a little hard to believe that it made a huge difference. >_> A little strange to have a beauty product review without pictures lol.

I bet they use the same active ingredients as in glaucoma medicine, so it’s probably a similar solution to Latisse. There’s probably some side-effects like staining of the eye color if a person uses the product too obsessively.

I’m sure that once you stop using the product, the eyelashes will return to normal fairly quickly.

im so glad this worked! ive been wanting to try it, but ita kind of expensive (on my budget) if i wasnt sure it would work.
also, do you know if once you stop using it, your eyelashes go back to normal length, or stay the same?

Nice. I have average ? length eye lashes but my sister has the longest eyelashes i’ve seen. I always thought it was weird when I was younger but now I wish I had em ;)

Lash serums are kinda like hair dye- if you dye your hair once, your original color will eventually come back. Lashes fall out, and it takes approximately 10 weeks for a full “growth cycle.” Theoretically, after you’re done with your first 10 weeks and completely stop using the product, 10 weeks later (20 weeks after your originally started,) your lashes will go back to normal.
    Hope this helps!

    June 1st, 2010 at 6:12 pm

sounds good, but how often would you recommend using the serum after it’s done its job? should you just continue to use it week after week? it’s rather expensive.

  19. 19
    June 1st, 2010 at 6:13 pm

well not raaather expensive, but I’m kinda frugal and I don’t buy a lot of makeup since I’m mainly a mascara + concealer kind of girl. lol.

    June 1st, 2010 at 6:18 pm

Didn’t you took pictures? A little suggestion can do wonders.

I tried it as well, but I have fairly long eyelashes, so much more growth for me would be a little weird haha. What I did notice, however, was that my eyelashes didn’t come out when taking off my eye makeup at night, therefore I had more eyelashes!!! :)

But readers, if you research this product on other websites and blogs, you will see that there are a ton of reviews that sing this product’s praises, so you don’t need to be skeptical! Just trying to back up the writer a little bit, because many of you seem very wary of trying this! :) It’s worth the money though. Promise.

I think I’m gonna try it even though normally I wouldn’t even think about it :D

I was wondering if this product has the risk of permanently changing the color of blue or green eyes like latisse does. Anyone have any experience/heard anything like that about this product?

  24. 24
    June 1st, 2010 at 11:44 pm

Do you think I can just use this everyday and buy tube after tube for the rest of my life? Or would my lashes be immune to it?

    June 2nd, 2010 at 3:08 pm

    Thanks for the review!!!!

I had been wondering about this product. I’m glad to hear it works specially since it’s so cheap! My mom uses Latisse and it worked for her. She had short lashes though and I have pretty long lashes already so I don’t need such a dramatic change. This seems like a perfect choice for me… I’m definitely going to try this!

  26. 26
    June 2nd, 2010 at 6:18 pm

I really want to try this, because my lashes are so short, but I’m afraid of any side effects there might be, too. Do you think it’s safe to use as a regular part of my nightly routine, like washing my face? Since you have to continue using it to maintain the longer lashes, I’m a little nervous… I want longer lashes really badly, but not badly enough to go blind or something. =(

    June 2nd, 2010 at 7:15 pm

The most common side effect is darkening of the iris. So if you have green-hazel eyes, like me, your eyes might turn brown-hazel, or even just brown.

    Hey Guys!

I updated the post, but if any of you guys subscribed to the comments, then I just wanted to let you know that this product WILL NOT change your eye color, so you have nothing to worry about in that regard.

    Hope it helped

I absolutely love this product as well! I work in the Cosmetics department at a local drug/department store and I luckily received a bottle as gratis from the Loreal rep and went straight home to try it. I was super happy with the results after a few weeks and at 10 weeks I was amazed. I suggest it to every customer that comes through and my manager and co-workers are hooked to it now too.
    P.S. Very engaging review Elizabeth!

Do you have to continue using it, or do you stop???

Ohhh I so am buying this! My lashes are average length but thin, but eyeliner smudged into my lash line makes them look thicker normally. I can’t wait to try it!

this is my 2nd week and i already see results. my sister says i have long lashes before starting the serum. this is making them become longer and fuller. i don’t notice any eyelash falling out either. this is awesome.

I have this and it works!!! Best part about it is that it just nourishes and protects instead of harsh chemicals that claim to make your lashes grow and once you stop using them your lashes fall out! this is just plain simple basic lash nourisher! love love!

I purchased the lash kit, and saw results in less than two weeks. Everybody lashes grow at different rates, some see lashes sooner than others. I love the serum it works great and reasonable price.

Honestly, ive tried this product and it does work. it mostly makes them thick then long but once you apply mascara, they appear incredible. ( my opinion)
but… ive tried something else. and it worked alot better. made my lashes really long, really dark and as for thickness not bad. its called ” NutraLuxe Lash MD ” Its a little expensive but its honestly worth it!

I was thinking about getting RapidLash since I heard a lot of good things about it but I didn’t want to go with something pricy. So I went to Target and bought L’Oreal Lash Boosting Serum; it was very affordable. I have been using it for 3 days but I only apply it at night after I wash my face. So I don’t expect to see any changes anytime soon but I’m very excited to know that it actually works for a lot of people. Hopefully, it will work for me too :-)

Hey, I left the comment on Aungust 28. I’m still using the serum and the results stay the same. It curls naturally though since using it. I’m trying it on my eyebrows to see if theres a difference.

I have to say, I did go out and buy this after seeing this post.. I was skeptical too, but I’ve always been desperate to get anything to try and make my fair short eyelashes look longer and darker!!…

And.. It actually worked. Like you said Elizabeth, I was surprised, but absolutely ecstatic and have been using it ever since now :)
