Get Ready Fast - 7 Quick and Easy Hairstyles

Young Woman Doing Her Hair

Every college girl has been there - after a late-night library sesh and only a few hours sleep, you wake up late with only a few minutes to throw something on and book it to class. With barely enough time to get dressed, not enough time for a shower, and bed head on top of that, what’s a stylish girl to do? Go to class with bad hair? Never!

Bookmark this page, ladies, because College Fashion has your solution. Here are seven fabulous and easy ways to do your hair when you’re pressed for time. Your hair will look hot, and no one will ever know you slept in!

Get Rid of Greasy Hair

1. Get Rid of Grease

Beat oily “second day” hair with this easy trick: grab some baby powder if you’re light-haired or matte bronzer if you’re a brunette and apply it to your roots with a big fluffy makeup brush. This absorbs grease and makes your hair look fresh. Then just fix any stray strands with a flat iron; shake out your hair and go.

Gossip Girl's Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester) in a Red Headband

2. Slip on a Headband

For an elegant style that’s so Blair on Gossip Girl, smooth out your hair with a brush, then pull on a wide headband to cover up messier strands and look instantly polished. Try a shiny patent leather headband in an outfit-coordinating shade for a super-trendy look that’s very right-now.

Messy Bun Hairstyle

3. Do a Messy Bun

This is the basic go-to staple for most college girls because it takes two seconds. Gather your hair on top of your head and wrap an elastic band around 2-3 times. Next, shape the bun with a few bobby pins that match your hair color, pull out a few ends to make it messier, and finish with a spray of hairspray.

Asian Inspired Chopstick Hair Bun

4. Try Chopstick Hair

This style only looks difficult.. it’s actually insanely easy to do. If you don’t know how to make a chopstick updo, check out this Youtube tutorial, or for another way to do it, this tutorial. You don’t need actual chopsticks for this look - special hair sticks or even a pencil will work in a pinch.

Serena Van Der Woodsen Chic Ponytail

5. Make a Chic Ponytail

If your hair is curly, use a little anti-frizz cream first. If you have straight locks, scrunch in curl cream to bring out some waves. Tease hair at the crown then pull into a low ponytail. Leave a ½ inch strand out and secure the ponytail with a clear elastic. Wrap the extra strand around the elastic and secure with a bobby pin.

Lauren Conrad (LC) With The Front Hair Poof Hairstyle

6. Do a Front Hair Poof

This popular hairstyle is a great way to hide bangs you might be growing out, and is also very simple to do. Just separate the section of hair from temple to temple, tease it with a fine-toothed comb and secure with two bobby pins in an X. If your hair won’t stay in the bobby pins, tease the section more or use four pins.

Matthew Williamson Inspired Sideways French Braid

7. French Braid Sideways

Inspired by Matthew Williamson, this style is best if you’re good at French braiding, but with practice anyone can do it. Part your hair to the side then French braid across your hairline, securing with a clear elastic. This look is boho chic so leave the rest of your hair messy. If you have natural waves, even better.

There you have it, the top 7 hairstyles for days when you don’t have time to spend on your hair. Let me know if you have any questions about any of the styles and as always, let me know what you think!

  2. I do the front poof a lot too, although I just got sideswept bangs so I have been wearing those down a lot more. And yes, the messy bun is such a classic, haha! <3

  3. Don’t forget the knit beanie! Yeah, it’s a total Rumer Willis rip-off, but when you’ve got ten minutes to get out the door and your hair is starting to look dreadlocked, it works!

And a tip (especially handy in winter), stick a dryer sheet in your knit hat before you put it on. It keeps you from looking like you stepped on a live wire when you take the hat off.

  4. Ahh the knit beanie. I like your tip about the dryer sheet! The reason I never wear hats is just for that reason - the static and general hat hair issue. Might have to give them another shot now.

  5. I totally miss long hair now. I mean I can totally use a hair band or braid it. but using chopsticks or messy buns are too fun! One thing i do love about the front poof is how you can be so much dressier in seconds. Love the post =)

  8. I love all your suggestion and plan to use some soon.
I have to ask though, for the first one, what would you suggest if we have red hair? since both baby powder and bronzer wouldn’t look right in my hair.

  9. for red hair… maybe coral colored blush? it’s all about the powdery texture absorbing the oil. they also make dry shampoo!!

  10. Don’t forget braiding your whole hair! That works the best when your hair is kinky and you don’t have much time. Try a dutch braid. It’s fun if you’re tired of french.

  12. oh to get rid of grease, u can rub some conditioner onto the roots of ur hair at ur scalp. this way, u don’t have to worry about it matching the color of ur hair (because conditioner is transparent=) )

    Cindy - August 23rd, 2008 at 11:48 pm

  13. Cindy - no way! Conditioner adds grease to your hair. You should never put it on your roots!!

    Briana - August 24th, 2008 at 4:12 pm

  14. Hey!
What also works for getting grease out is to use facial absobent papers. they r amazing! (for everything). They r great if ur out and its hot. u dont wanna mess up ur make up but ur face is oily. so what u do is take one of the papers and press them onto ur face. or in this case onto ur roots. i have black hair so as briana said that way u dont have to worry about the colour!

  19. A side pony tail (for longish hair), over one shoulder, bangs side swept and head band looks cute and is easy. Plus teasing the back of your head (the corwn) at the roots looks super cute with a cute pin or head band - anyways, cute ideas!

  22. I fishtail brain my hair all the time. It’s different from the french braid or inside out braid you mostly see.
