I used to live in New York City, where my hair would not 'poof' from humidity and it was pretty much straight with just a little bit of wave, and it mostly normal, and maybe just a bit dry. Last year, however, I moved to an extremely humid area of the world and I'll be stuck here for another three years or so, and my hair has gone from mostly straight to mostly curly! How did this happen? It's always poofing unreasonably and frizzing disgustingly and I'm guessing it's because of the climate. >.< I have never straightened or curled my hair before because I never needed to in NYC and I don't want to start because it'll just further damage my hair. Advice?

Just moved to Colorado springs and my hair is always crazy frizzy and very staticy. I use a very small amount of olive oil on my hair to keep the frizz down. I love the dryer sheet idea though!

I really like this article!! I found out that for those of you who have unruly curls, if you try braiding your hair after your usual hair routine, and leave it for 12 hours you really wont be disappointed with the results! i haven't stopped using this method since i found out about it!

Ponytails are my best friend because I can never get my hair to look good otherwise. I love in Vegas, where there's no humidity at all, so my hair is so flat and stringy here. I actually miss living in humid climates, which makes my hair look a lot thicker.

@ Cara: My mom used to have oily hair and she found something online that helped her with that problem. Here's the link : http://www.ehow.com/how_2314546_get-rid-oily-hair.html
You might have to copy and paste the link. Also use mousse or a leave in conditioner. That really helped her too.

I've read everybody's posts and to be totally honest with you. I've lived in CA and Texas. During the humid months in TEXAS there is nothing that will keep curly hair from frizzing up or going back to it's natural state. Plus, you have to limit any kind of lightning to the hair. I'm not a chemist but water binds to water. The hair is made up of water, protein and dead cells. If your hair is course or dry. It's going to be unmanageable in humid weather. Plus the heat mixed with humidity will pull any type of moisture out of the hair and make it drier. In other words protect your hair. No alcohol based products. CA weather is very dry, condition, condition, condition! Hope this helps!

Any tips for a girl with lots of long but very fine and somewhat oily hair who is experiencing humidity, frizz, and an odd wave for the first time? How do I restore (for more than half-an-hour) the sleek, shiny, naturally straight strands I had at home in Austin, Texas? Is my only choice to scorch my poor hair with a straightening iron or just give up and look fuzzy 'round the edges? Help, please! I can't stand the eternal "bedhead" look one day more!!
